This light beam is then split via asemi-transparent mirror into a measurement beamand a reference beam.The light intensity of these two beams is measuredby two different detectors. The reference beamstrikes the detector directly, while the measurementbeam first passes through the sample, beforeit strikes the second detector.The measurement figure is arrived at by calculatingthe difference in light intensity of the two beamsand this means that only the absorption in thesample is measured.
