Tintometer ® -GroupReagentsDevelopmentFor more than thirty years, Tintometer inDortmund has been manufacturing reagents forwater testing and marketing thesereagents around the world under the brand nameLovibond ® .Different forms of reagents are required fordifferent fields of application. It is fair to say that,in terms of quality, tablet reagents are the bestform of reagent. Thanks to production techniquesof the type used in the pharmaceuticalindustry and stringent internal quality standards,Tintometer is able to produce tablet reagents forwater testing with a guaranteed shelf life of 5 or10 years. These tablets are individually sealed inhigh-grade, polyethylene-coated aluminium foiland represent the reagent form of choice foreveryday water testing applications.Users in different countries traditionally preferforms of reagent other than tablets. Lovibond ®powder reagents are designed to allow fast andeasy testing.Powder reagents are packed in aluminium foilfor a wide range of applications and producersrepresent an alternative reagent form recentlyintroduced by Tintometer.Last but not least, liquid reagents are indispensablefor many testing tasks. Testing for substances thatare hard to detect, for parameters like total nitrogen,or for the aggregate parameter COD, requirethe use of a wide range of reagents in a form thatpermits more "aggressive” sample processing. TheLovibond ® programme is rounded off by reagenttests and tube tests, making Tintometer GmbH theonly reagent producerin the worldthat offers a complete range of reagent forms.DPD reagentsDPD reagents are offered by different manufacturers. For quality reasons, users should validate the productsprior to use.DPD reagents are produced on the basis of internationalstandard methods and the ISO standardmethod. The chemicals are of crystallinewhite nature. If a reagent (tablets or powder) is notwhite but has turned grey/brownish orpurple in colour, it has deteriorated. DPD liquid reagentswhich should be colourless when fresh andmay turn brownish in colour if the reagent has deteriorated. The use of deteriorated products must beavoided as they will give false results.Tablet reagentsOur test tablets are manufactured in Germanyunder tightly controlled conditions on the latestmachinery.Maintaining the highest quality standards permitsTintometer GmbH to guarantee our reagenttablets for a minimum of 5 years, and some foras long as 10 years. We can make this promise because each tablet ishermetically sealed within an individual aluminiumfoil pocket, protecting against challenging environmentalconditions. This packaging keeps eachtablet in perfect condition, right up until the timeit is needed by the user.Test tablets remain the most consistent andreliable reagent format available, consistentlyoutperforming other reagent formats, anddelivering maximum accuracy for the user. Now we have improved even further on this highlysuccessful format. To the tight quality controlprocesses, integral to Lovibond ® ’s tabletmanufacture, and the simple test procedures,we have added new blister packaging. Our new aluminium foil blister packaging bringsadded convenience to the tradition of protectionachieved in Lovibond ® ’s long established tabletproduction technology. With the new blister strip, the user just pushes thetablet through the protective foil, straight into thesample. Simple, time-saving and practical. This type of packaging, long established inpharmaceutical applications, combines all theadvantages of protective foil, with conveniencefor the user. Each tablet is contained within an individuallyformed foil cup, lined with the latest aluminiumcomposite material, and guaranteeing productperformance. As a result of improved sealing efficiency, the blisterpack has been reduced in size to 91 x 34mmmaking them even more convenient for storageand shipping.‘BT’ is added to the end of the code to identify thenew style of packaging. (For example – 511060BT).There are no safety risks if the tablets are used inline with the instructions supplied.Safety data sheets are available for all reagents.Specifications and Certificate ofAnalysisTo express the high quality standard of Lovibond ®tablet reagents, specifications for each type oftablet as well as a “Certificate of Analysis” foreach lot is available in the down-load area atwww.lovibond.com.74 Regularly updated information: www.lovibond.com General Catalogue November 2010
Tube testsMembrane filter setLovibond ® tube tests enable the user to easilyperform highly sensitive and precise water testing. When using tube tests measurement isconsiderably faster and easier, particularly in thecase of standard and serial tests. The tube tests contain a precisely measuredamount of reagent, thereby avoiding the presenceof superfluous chemicals and optimising test safety.Up to six different measuring ranges areavailable for the various tests. The tubes are made of special optical glass with a16 mm in diameter. They are supplied in a storageand dispatch box together with the digestion orauxiliary reagents. This packaging unit contains 24or 25 reaction vials and up to 2 zero vials for photometersystem calibration.Liquid reagentsAs a rule, liquid reagents do not consist of a singlepreparation but comprise several components thatneed to be added to the sample in a certain order. As both the size and the number of drops have adecisive effect on the resultant colour complex, the reagents need to be added with a high degreeof precision. The useful life of liquid reagents is reduced bytemporary contact with oxygen in the air whenthe bottle is opened as well as by unsuitable storageenvironments (presence of sunlight or hightemperatures). Provided that the bottles are storedwithin the temperature range +6°C to +10°C, theLovibond ® DPD and Phenol Red solutions can beused for a period of one year from the productiondate.VARIO Powder PacksThe fast and easy use of VARIO Powder Packs hasmade them extremely popular for water testingapplications in many countries throughout theworld. The Lovibond ® Powder Pack programmeprovides more experienced users with a realalternative to existing measurement systems. The Vario Powder Packs are produced to thesame high quality standards that have madeTintometer's tablet reagents so successful for severaldecades.Parameters from aluminium and chlorine throughto sulphate are just some of the well-known teststhat are included in the VARIO Powder Pack range.Their chemical properties is suitable also for usewith Hach-Photometer-Systems.➲ Detailed information see pages 96 - 103For use when preparing samples for photometricmeasurementsAdvantages• removes turbid materials from samples• differentiates between dissolved and totalsubstances• 0.45 µm mesh meets the requirements ofthe official German unitary procedure forwater testingTo prevent the effects of light scatter, it must beensured that all turbid materials are removedfrom the sample before photometric measurementsare carried out. This can be achieved withthe Lovibond membrane filter set. Where certainmethods are employed (e.g., iron, manganese,CSB, etc.) a membrane filter set must be used todifferentiate samples in terms of dissolved andtotal substances. The filter mesh size of 0.45 µmis in accordance with the official German unitaryprocedure for water testing.Order code: 36 61 50(covers 25 x 0.45 µm membrane filtersand two 20 ml syringes)PhotometryGeneral Catalogue November 201075
