From the analysis of the map it can be easily concluded that the centre of the territory was the region with the highest occurrence of changes in the period 2000-2006. This is related essentially to the well-known dynamic nature of the Portuguese forests, which constitute the main land cover type in that region. In order to further understand the LULC dynamics in Continental Portugal between 2000 and 2006 it is important to examine the areas that were gained and lost per class in that period (Table 9), as well as the change matrix (Table 10).
