There are a number of reasons whyyou might want to use low transmitterpower, but the main reason wouldprobably be to conserve battery power. If you need to get the maximum usebetween charges and you spend a fairproportion of the time transmitting onthe radio, then selecting low power canincrease battery life quite dramatically.Obviously, you must also be in closeproximity to the other radios or thenearby repeater otherwise your lowerpowered signal may not get through.Briefly press the F key followed by theHI/LO key. A high beep will indicate Highpower mode is selected. A Low beepaccompanied by ‘LO’ on the displayindicates Low power is set.TRANSMITTINGBefore transmitting, check to see if thechannel is already in use (‘BUSY’ willbe displayed and the LED on the top ofthe radio will be green). If the channelis busy, you should wait until it is clearbefore transmitting. To transmit, press the Push-To-Talk(PTT) switch on the left-hand side of theradio. Hold the radio about 5 – 8 cmsfrom your face with the antenna verticaland speak into the built-in microphonelocated just below the speaker. Whentalking, speak at a normal voice level. The microphone is quite sensitive so it isnot necessary to raise your voice or shout.RECEIVINGNOTE: Your radio may be programmedwith options that could affect the way yourradio behaves when it receives a call fromanother radio.Normal receptionYour radio will normally be muted(squelched) so that it is quiet when thereare no signals. When a transmission isreceived, the radio will automaticallyunmute itself to allow you to hear the call. The BUSY IndicatorWhenever the channel is active, theBUSY indicator will appear on the displayand the green LED on the top of theradio will light. However, depending onthe muting options selected on yourradio, you may not always hear anysound from the speaker. This can happenwhen others are sharing the channel buttheir calls are not meant for you. For thisreason it is important that you visuallycheck that the channel is not busy beforemaking a call to ensure you do notaccidentally talk over someone else.TX6200 I N S T R U C T I O N M A N UA L PAGE 11
