AnnexTABLE 5Refugees and people in a refugee-like situation,excluding asylum-seekers, and changes by origin and country of asylum | 2010 (ctnd)The refugee population is included in this table if the number was 5,000 or more at the end of 2010.N.B. For 24 industrialized countries, UNHCR has estimated the refugee population based on 10 years of asylum-seeker recognition.The columns “Major increases” and “Major decreases” exclude population changes resulting from administrative corrections, adjustments as a result of registration,new estimates as well as births and deaths. In some cases, the population at the end of 2010 does not equal the population at the start of 2010 plus increases anddecreases. This discrepancy is due to the fact that the voluntary repatriation figures include estimates from countries of return. In addition, the full details of thechanges in the refugee population in industrialized countries are often unknown.Voluntary repatriation* shows a best estimate, based on country of asylum and country of origin reports. Figures between 1 and 4 have been replaced with an asterisk (*).OriginCountry/territoryof asylumPopulation start-2010 Major increases Major decreases during 2010 Population end-2010Totalof whom:UNHCRassistedSpont. arrivalsGrouprecognitionIndiv.recogn.Voluntaryrepatriation*Totalof whom:UNHCRassistedResettlementTotalof whom:UNHCRassistedCessationNaturalizationTotalof whom:UNHCRassistedSri Lanka United Kingdom 8,615 - - 285 - - - - - - 6,822 -Stateless Germany 5,097 - - 18 - - - - - - 5,103 -Sudan Chad 262,194 248,001 2,212 12 4,000 - 26 26 - - 278,257 264,064Sudan Egypt 9,818 9,818 - 388 251 251 184 146 * - 10,035 10,035Sudan Ethiopia 23,516 23,516 - 112 47 47 65 65 - - 25,238 25,238Sudan Israel 5,502 4,580 - - - - - - - - 8,137 4,580Sudan Kenya 20,315 20,315 - 139 64 64 103 103 - - 20,528 20,528Sudan Uganda 20,836 20,836 - 38 2,674 2,674 14 14 - - 19,382 19,382Syrian Arab Rep.
