The second Staten Island Slim Down starts thisweekend, offer<strong>in</strong>g free help to residents look<strong>in</strong>g to lose weight and avoid <strong>the</strong>ailments associated with be<strong>in</strong>g overweight or obese.The kickoff will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at <strong>the</strong> Joan and Alan Bernikow JCC <strong>in</strong>Sea View. The day will <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>in</strong>formation on <strong>the</strong> 10-week program, healthscreen<strong>in</strong>gs and an appearance by Alfredo (Frado) D<strong>in</strong>ten of Todt Hill, a formercontestant on NBCs The Biggest Loser and a Slim Down ambassador.There were numerous changes <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> contestants from last year, said Dr. MaureenBecker, co-founder of <strong>the</strong> event along with Tony Books Avilez. Although it wasnt necessarily <strong>the</strong> most pounds shed, <strong>the</strong> judgesdeemed that Toner exhibited <strong>the</strong> greatest overall transformation.We never emphasized gett<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> scale and how many pounds were lost, saidPage 118 of 161
