Court records show Dotson was on eight-year probation from a 1998 assault with a deadly weapon case <strong>in</strong>Houston, Tex., when he was arrested <strong>in</strong> 1999, <strong>in</strong> connection with a second assault with a deadly weaponarrest.Dotson, who had worked as an aide at several nurs<strong>in</strong>g homes, was deathly afraid of go<strong>in</strong>g back to jail, saidhis bail bonds agents back <strong>in</strong> Texas, Brian and Deborah Carlisle, who lost <strong>the</strong> $100,000 bond <strong>the</strong>y securedfor his release.In one of <strong>the</strong> arrest cases, Dotson responded to an <strong>in</strong>sult aga<strong>in</strong>st his sister by fir<strong>in</strong>g bullets, <strong>the</strong>y said.Holmes was <strong>the</strong> name of his girlfriend’s bro<strong>the</strong>r, Ms. Carlisle said, and <strong>the</strong>y thought he had fled to Louisianabefore disappear<strong>in</strong>g."He was pretty doggone elusive, I’ll tell you that," Ms. Carlisle said. "He made up his m<strong>in</strong>d he wasn’t go<strong>in</strong>gto prison."Dotson’s girlfriend was jailed at one po<strong>in</strong>t because authorities believed she had <strong>in</strong>formation on hiswhereabouts, Ms. Carlisle said, and <strong>the</strong>y tried to get <strong>in</strong>formation from his mo<strong>the</strong>r, but she was "just off," andwould often say she had conversations with Elvis about <strong>the</strong> case."We had people on <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r at work," Ms. Carlisle said. "We had a $10,000 reward on him... We were athis mo<strong>the</strong>r’s for every holiday for three or four years."Had he faced his court cases, he would have faced seven years beh<strong>in</strong>d bars, and "with <strong>the</strong> overcrowd<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>our prison system, he would have been out <strong>in</strong> a year."Ms. Carlisle said she feels sorry for Dotson’s family, and especially feels for <strong>the</strong> police officer who walked <strong>in</strong>on him. "He’s lucky to be alive," she said. "You never know what you’re go<strong>in</strong>g up aga<strong>in</strong>st."The Houston, Tex. cases have s<strong>in</strong>ce been dismissed aga<strong>in</strong>st Dotson, with <strong>the</strong> court fil<strong>in</strong>gs, dated on Dec. 2,list<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> reason <strong>in</strong> a s<strong>in</strong>gle, handwritten l<strong>in</strong>e: "Defendant died <strong>in</strong> custody <strong>in</strong> New York."© 2012 SILive.com.
