The Center for College Read<strong>in</strong>ess is a college preparation program aimed at improv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the college read<strong>in</strong>ess of area high school students and assist<strong>in</strong>g at risk college students<br />

who arrive on campus unprepared for academic success. The program provides students<br />

with the support and <strong>in</strong>formation they need to make college a viable part of their future.<br />

Bus<strong>in</strong>ess students Invited to meet the International president of Rotary<br />

Rather than follow<strong>in</strong>g a set syllabus, the two classes of BUS 304 have consolidated to<br />

form one corporation while complet<strong>in</strong>g two separate and dist<strong>in</strong>ct outreach plans for the<br />

Rotary Clubs of Cleveland and Canton. In celebration of their 100th anniversary and as<br />

a gift to the City of Cleveland and its youth, the Rotary Club of Cleveland has agreed to<br />

be the port Organizer of the 2010 Tall Ships Festival. The Tall Ships Youth Sail Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

program is be<strong>in</strong>g designed to provide life, <strong>in</strong>terpersonal and leadership skills for students<br />

from the Cleveland metropolitan School District, through classroom, dockside and “on<br />

the water” tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

In addition, the class created a market<strong>in</strong>g strategy to sell 500 pro Football hall of Fame<br />

Dream Weekend raffle tickets for the Canton Rotary. Organized by the Canton Rotary<br />

Charitable Fund, proceeds from this special program will benefit participat<strong>in</strong>g Rotary<br />

Clubs throughout the United States.<br />

In honor of their hard work over the semester, the students were extended the unique<br />

<strong>in</strong>vitation to meet Rotary International president D.K. Lee, hosted by the Rotary Club of<br />

Cleveland <strong>in</strong> march.<br />

New Board members Appo<strong>in</strong>ted and Emeritus status Granted to Four<br />

<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> recently appo<strong>in</strong>ted two new members, Fr. James Sullivan, O.p., and<br />

msgr. James Clarke, to the <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> Board of Directors. In addition, former Board<br />

members were granted the honor of emeritus Status. honored with the title Director<br />

emeritus were Thomas Schervish, Charles Tyburski, Virg<strong>in</strong>ia Jeffries, and Sr. Judith Karam.<br />

<strong>Walsh</strong> Hosts Football’s First Junior World Championship this June<br />

In June, <strong>Walsh</strong> will serve as residence and practice site for eight <strong>in</strong>ternational football<br />

teams from four cont<strong>in</strong>ents compet<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the 2009 International Federation of American<br />

Football (IFAF) Junior World Championship.<br />

Fawcett Stadium will host all 12 IFAF Junior World Championship Games. The historic<br />

tournament marks football’s first world championship among high school-aged national<br />

teams. Five of the <strong>University</strong>’s residence halls will house the tournament’s 360 teenage<br />

athletes. national teams that have cl<strong>in</strong>ched IFAF Junior World Championship berths<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude: Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Sweden and the United States.<br />

USA Football’s Junior national Team, represent<strong>in</strong>g the United States and led by head<br />

coach ChUCK KYLe of Cleveland St. Ignatius high School, also will conduct practices<br />

on the <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> fields approximately two weeks prior to the tournament.<br />

Scheduled practices among the <strong>in</strong>ternational teams will be open to the public.<br />
