Partners. Radim Stein is a nurse a couple of years after school and Karel Müller is an ambulance driver closeto retirement. During the few years they have been driving together, they have experienced quite a lot. One timewhen I asked Karel which incident was the worst one for him, he thought for a moment and then began talking aboutthe old man who had cut his veins in the bushes behind the garages. He and Radim found him in time. But, when theyhad put him into the ambulance, he begged them with tears in his eyes to let him die. All the way to the hospital, hekept telling them that no one loved him any more and that his daughter had kicked him out of the house. He did notthank them for their help; instead, he looked at them with a reproachful expression. Karel could have told me insteadabout the time he went with the first ambulance to the burning Olympik Hotel, where 8 people died and 34 wereinjured. He has seen plenty of horrors, but that old man was the first to come to his mind.
