<strong>com</strong>petition.<br />

The year <strong>2009</strong> also represented the development of a new<br />

business sector, namely the Retail sector, the introduction into the<br />

distribution market of plastic finished products.<br />

During this year, contacts were established with the large<br />

international accounts present in the Romanian market and a<br />

<strong>com</strong>petitive portfolio was developed under partnerships for<br />

exclusivity with Romanian and European processors on the selected<br />

segments.<br />

As <strong>com</strong>pared to the previous year, in <strong>2009</strong>, the sales of own<br />

production increased by 3.8 %.<br />

In addition to its own products, the <strong>com</strong>pany also carries out<br />

a sustained activity of selling a broad range of petrochemical<br />

products that are not currently in the production portfolio in the<br />

<strong>Rompetrol</strong> Petrochemicals <strong>com</strong>plex, but for which there is a high<br />

demand in the Romanian market: special varieties of polypropylene,<br />

high-density polyethylenede (HDPE), low-density polyethylenede<br />

(LDPE) and PET.<br />

Quality<br />

The permanent connection between the producer and the final<br />

processor was optimized through the Technical Assistance Service,<br />

a department that made possible the integration of the processing<br />

feedback as part of the strategy of development and improvement<br />

of the range of products. The technical assistance available to the<br />

customer and provided implicitly by <strong>Rompetrol</strong> Petrochemicals<br />

is one of the factors that contributed to the consolidation of its<br />

role as an important player in Central and South-Eastern Europe in<br />

the polyolefin market. The producer-processor synergy achieved<br />

following visits and discussions, made possible the development of<br />

a restructuring process for the range of products, which managed<br />

to align our products to the level and requirements imposed by the<br />

final user.<br />

For achieving the quality objectives, the <strong>Rompetrol</strong> Petrochemicals<br />

Laboratory, due to the professionalism of its employed personnel<br />

and by applying the new laboratory techniques following the<br />

purchase of new equipment, the updating of standards and the<br />

enforcement of the legislation in force, successfully managed<br />

to cover the range of tests required by the licensor and the final<br />

customers. The permanent concern to increase the degree of<br />

customer satisfaction, as well as to align to the requirements of<br />

European directives, is in addition to the activity carried out by the<br />

Laboratory, the role of these directions of development being to<br />

confirm and consolidate the confidence and appreciation for the<br />

range of tests made in the <strong>Rompetrol</strong> Petrochemicals Laboratory.<br />

Through the activity carried out in <strong>2009</strong>, the QHSE team ensured<br />

the maintaining of an implemented and certified integrated<br />

management system. Thus:<br />

• the documents related to the integrated management system were<br />

reviewed;<br />

• the applicable instructions were implemented;<br />

• the audit for the GLC recertification of quality management systems<br />

took place – ISO 9001:2008, environment – ISO 14001:2004,<br />

occupational health and safety - BS OHSAS 18001:2007 and new<br />

certificates with a 3-year validity period were obtained;<br />

• the legal requirements and other requirements of the relevant<br />

bodies/authorities regarding reporting and the obtaining of the<br />

necessary authorizations/certificates were met and applied.<br />

In <strong>2009</strong>, the greenhouse gas emissions remained within the values<br />

allocated (the National Allocation Plan). In addition, the procedure<br />

of preregistration of hazardous substances on the territory of the<br />

European Union started, which is subject to the REACH Regulation,<br />

by which chemicals are registered, evaluated and authorized.<br />

No environmental protection penalties/ sanctions were enforced.<br />

2010 Key Objectives:<br />

• operation of the PP and LDPE polymer plants at maximum capacity;<br />

• optimization of production costs and, implicitly, of power consumption;<br />

• modernization of the additive proportioning system at the LDPE plant<br />

(site extruder) to increase the quality of products;<br />

• restarting the HDPE plant; preparing the HDPE plant for the increase in<br />

capacity;<br />

• modernization of the steam boilers burners to reduce NOx emissions to<br />

the level of environmental requirements;<br />

• transfer of DCS into CCR for the polymer plants;<br />

• purchase of new laboratory equipment to improve the quality control<br />

for products;<br />

• efficient implementation of a strategic safety increase program<br />

together with DuPont Safety Resources, by which the Petromidia and<br />

Vega platforms will be<strong>com</strong>e LEADERS in work safety and protection<br />

good practice.<br />

From the <strong>com</strong>mercial point of view, for <strong>2009</strong>, the <strong>com</strong>pany intends<br />

to increase its market shares. For supporting this objective, the<br />

<strong>com</strong>pany will approach a new direction involving a continuous<br />

process of development of a customized offer, according to the<br />

customers’ needs.<br />
