Starting as of 2008, <strong>Rompetrol</strong> is a partner and main sponsor for<br />
Gala Societăţii Civile (Civil Society Gala) – the annual <strong>com</strong>petition<br />
that awards the best projects of the year, projects innitiated by<br />
NGOs, unions, individuals etc.<br />

Human Resources Development<br />
The <strong>Rompetrol</strong> Group pays particular attention to human<br />
resources development and training. In <strong>2009</strong> the <strong>com</strong>pany<br />
provided advanced training and improvement of professional<br />
skills to more than 500 employees, based on the requests of their<br />
positions within the Group (MAs – in cooperation with the Oil &<br />
Gas University, Ploieşti; ACCA and MBA programs; technical courses<br />
in the field of oil & gas; courses in foreign languages etc.).<br />
Also, <strong>Rompetrol</strong> managed to increase its number of employees,<br />
from almost 9.000 in 2007, to over 9.600 at the end of <strong>2009</strong>.<br />
<strong>Rompetrol</strong> has had the same consistent approach towards<br />
the education and youth development, by their involvement<br />
in activities within <strong>com</strong>panies of the Group. In <strong>2009</strong>, on the<br />
Petromidia oil platform, the <strong>com</strong>panies <strong>Rompetrol</strong> Rafinare,<br />
<strong>Rompetrol</strong> Petrochemicals and <strong>Rompetrol</strong> Quality Control have<br />
conducted programs for selecting students with high potential,<br />
offering them an organized environment for professional<br />
development.<br />
Internship <strong>2009</strong><br />
This program consists of active practice within the <strong>com</strong>pany, for 2<br />
months, finalized with an assessment, based on which a part of the<br />
participants are selected for the “Trainee” program. The program,<br />
that took place between August – September <strong>2009</strong>, included<br />
26 students from five university centers (Constanţa, Cluj, Iaşi,<br />
Bucharest, Ploieşti).<br />
<strong>2009</strong> was the seventh consecutive year in which <strong>Rompetrol</strong> has<br />
organized and conducted this type of program, and the obtained<br />
results support its development in the years to <strong>com</strong>e.<br />
Trainee Program <strong>2009</strong><br />
The Trainee Program represents the final selection stage of the<br />
most <strong>com</strong>petent participants. Its duration is of 6 months, from<br />
October 01 through March 31, period during which the students<br />
have the possibility to put their knowledge into practice in various<br />
departments within the refinery/petrochemicals/ RQC units. This<br />
experience is followed by a final performance assessment and<br />
hiring the best in the organizing <strong>com</strong>panies. At the end of the<br />
Trainee Program, ten students were hired by <strong>Rompetrol</strong>.<br />
Environment Protection<br />
The <strong>Rompetrol</strong> Group carries out environment protection in<br />
full conformity with the requirements of the nature protection<br />
legislation of the European Union.<br />
In <strong>2009</strong>, the QHSE team ensured that the implemented and<br />
certified integrated management system was maintained.<br />
• A Germanischer Lloyd re-certification audit of the quality<br />
management system – ISO 9001:2008, of the environment<br />
management system – ISO 14001:2004, and of the occupational<br />
health and safety system – BS OHSAS 18001:2007, and new<br />
certificates were obtained, which are valid for 3 years.<br />
• A Security <strong>Report</strong>, an Intervention Plan for Fire Prevention<br />
and Suppression, Fire Safety Scenarios, the Identification and<br />
Assessment of Fire Risks, the Internal Emergency Plan were drafted<br />
and issued according to Government Resolution no. 804/2007 -<br />
regarding the control of major accident hazards and Order no. 163/<br />
2007 for the approval of the General Norms for Fire Safety.<br />
Greenhouse effect gas emissions were within allocated thresholds<br />
in <strong>2009</strong> (as per the National Allocation Plan). Since 2008 The<br />
<strong>Rompetrol</strong> Group is a member of CONCAWE (Conservation of Clean<br />
Air and Water in Europe), an organization founded in 1963 which<br />
researches multiple aspects of environmental protection in the oil<br />
industry.<br />
Once affiliated to CONCAWE, all of the Group’s member <strong>com</strong>panies<br />
benefit from assistance to <strong>com</strong>ply with the European REACH<br />
Directive (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction<br />
of Chemicals). As a result, all the chemical substances used in the<br />
Group’s activities, from raw materials to gasoline and diesel fuel,<br />
are registered and authorized.<br />
Therefore, in <strong>2009</strong> <strong>Rompetrol</strong> continued the procedure for the<br />
preliminary registration of hazardous substances on the territory<br />
of the European Union, as regulated by the REACH Regulation,<br />
regarding the registration, evaluation and authorization of<br />
chemical substances. No penalties/sanctions were applied in <strong>2009</strong><br />
for environment protection regulations infringements.<br />
