4.9 Traffic Surveys4.9.1 Number and Location <strong>of</strong> Survey Stations1. The methodology <strong>of</strong> collection and analysis <strong>of</strong> data, number and location <strong>of</strong> trafficsurvey stations shall be finalized in consultation with RSRDC.4.9.2. Classified Traffic Volume Count Survey1. The classified traffic volume count surveys shall be carried out <strong>for</strong> 7 days(continuous, direction-wise) at the selected survey stations. The vehicleclassification system as given in relevant IRC code may be followed.2. All results shall be presented in tabular and graphical <strong>for</strong>m. The survey data shallbe analysed to bring out the hourly and daily variations. The traffic volume countper day shall be averaged to show a weekly Average Daily Traffic (ADT) byvehicle type. The Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) shall be worked out byapplying seasonal factors.3. The <strong>consultant</strong>s shall <strong>com</strong>pile the relevant traffic volume data from secondarysources also. The salient features <strong>of</strong> traffic volume characteristics shall be broughtout and variations if any, from the traffic census carried out by the State PWDshall be suitably explained.4.9.3. Origin-Destination and Commodity Movements Surveys1. The Consultants shall carry out 1-day (24 hour, both directions) O-D andCommodity Movement Surveys at locations finalised in consultation withRSRDC. The locations <strong>of</strong> the O-D survey and Commodity Movement surveysshall normally be same as <strong>for</strong> the classified traffic count stations.2. The location <strong>of</strong> origin and destination zones shall be determined in relation to eachindividual station and the possibility <strong>of</strong> traffic diversion to the Project Roadfrom/to other road routes including bypasses.3. The data derived from surveys shall also be analysed to bring out the lead and loadcharacteristics and desire line diagrams. The data analysis should also bring outthe requirement <strong>for</strong> the construction <strong>of</strong> bypasses.4.9.4. Turning Movement Surveys1. The turning movement surveys shall be as per IRC: SP: 41-1994, <strong>for</strong> estimation <strong>of</strong>peak hour traffic <strong>for</strong> the design <strong>of</strong> major and minor intersections shall be carriedout <strong>for</strong> the Study. The details regarding <strong>com</strong>position and directional movement <strong>of</strong>traffic shall be furnished by the Consultant.4.9.5. Axle Load Surveys1. Axle load surveys in both directions shall be carried out at suitable location(s) inthe project road stretch on a random sample basis normally <strong>for</strong> trucks only (bothempty and loaded trucks) <strong>for</strong> 2 normal days - (24 hours) at special count stationsto be finalised in consultation with RSRDC.2. The axle load data should be collected axle configuration-wise. The number <strong>of</strong>equivalent standard axles per truck shall be calculated on the basis <strong>of</strong> resultsobtained. The results <strong>of</strong> the survey should bring out the VDF <strong>for</strong> each truck type(axle configuration, if the calculated VDF is found to be below the nationalaverage, then national average shall be used.4.9.6. Speed-Delay Surveys41
