NEW YORK STATEACCREDITATED AGENCYThe Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is a NewYork Sate accredited public safety organization with responsibilitieswhich includes the enforcement of all laws, maintaining peace and order,preserving the rights of our citizens, protecting property and personalsafety; providing professional public safety dispatching services; providinganimal control services; and assisting persons in need. Further,responsibilities include providing a safe and secure Jail, meeting theneeds of victims and providing community service programs, and properlyreceiving and executing any and all legal civil processes referred to theOffice of the Sheriff.2Law EnforcementCode of EthicsAs a Law Enforcement Officer, myfundamental duty is to serve mankind;to safeguard lives and property; toprotect the innocent against deception,the weak against oppression orintimidation, and the peaceful againstviolence or disorder; and to respect theConstitutional rights of all men to liberty,equality and justice.I will keep my private life unsullied asan example to all; maintain courageouscalm in the face of danger, scorn orridicule; develop self-restraint; and beconstantly mindful of the welfare ofothers. Honest in thought and deed inboth my personal and official life. I willbe exemplary in obeying the laws of theland and the regulations of mydepartment. Whatever I see or hear ofa confidential nature or that is confidedto me in my official capacity will be keptever secret unless revelation isnecessary in the performance of myduty.I will never act officiously or permitpersonal feelings, prejudices,animosities or friendships to influencemy decisions. With no compromise forcrime and with relentless prosecution ofcriminals, I will enforce the lawcourteously and appropriately withoutfear or favor, malice or ill will, neveremploying unnecessary force orviolence and never accepting gratuities.I recognize the badge of my office as asymbol of public faith, and I accept it asa public trust to be held so long as I amtrue to the ethics of the police service. Iwill constantly strive to achieve theseobjectives and ideals, dedicating myselfto my chosen profession . . .law enforcement.
