If you want to specify more than oneoper<strong>and</strong>, you can specify them in any order.PurposeThe POSIXINFO statement specifies a user ID’s POSIX information. It containsPOSIX user database information such as POSIX user ID (UID), POSIX group ID(GID) or group name, initial working directory, initial user program <strong>and</strong> file systemroot.How to SpecifyIf you specify the POSIXINFO statement, it must precede any device statementsyou specify in a profile or user entry. (For a list of device statements, see Table 20on page 448.)Multiple POSIXINFO statements are allowed within a user or profile entry. Eachoper<strong>and</strong> may only be specified once within a user or profile entry. POSIXINFOvalues within a user entry override those in a profile entry.The POSIXINFO statement may be continued across multiple records in the sourcedirectory file. For detailed information about continued statement rules, see“Continued Directory Control Statements” on page 452. Note that some oper<strong>and</strong>son this statement are case sensitive, so care should be taken to preserve the caseof them when editing the user directory file.Oper<strong>and</strong>sUID uidspecifies the POSIX user ID (UID) assigned to this user. This will be the user’sreal UID, effective UID <strong>and</strong> saved set-UID when the user logs on. Care shouldbe taken in assigning zero as the UID, because UID zero is considered todenote appropriate privileges. A user with appropriate privileges can performmany authorized POSIX functions <strong>and</strong> will pass many security checks. The uidis a numeric value between 0 <strong>and</strong> ’4294967295 (X'FFFFFFFF'). A default valueof 4294967295 (X'FFFFFFFF') is assigned if there is no UID specification for auser.GID gidGNAME gnamespecifies the user’s primary group. The gid is a numeric value between 0 <strong>and</strong>4294967295 (X'FFFFFFFF'). The gname is a 1- to 8-character mixed-caseChapter 17. Creating <strong>and</strong> Updating a User Directory 545
