Breast of Health is a charity based in Bedford which has been recently set up in response to the increasing number of younger women under 50 years of age presenting with a variety of breast health problems. At present, there is no offi cial breast education programme for younger women unless a problem is detected. Chairperson, Margaret Duggan comments “We are encouraged to have dental checks and eye tests on a six monthly or yearly basis but a regular check for breast health is not currently off ered to women under 50. Yet too many women today are suff ering with breast disease, particularly breast cancer, at a much younger age. Th e mission of Breast of Health is to educate and promote good practice so women can make informed choices and have the tools to take responsibility for their own breast health.” Breast of Health charity is available to girls from the age of 16 years to older women of any age. Th e emphasis is to highlight the importance of being proactive rather than re-active about breast health and lifestyle, including nutrition and fi tness. Th is is delivered by the charity’s service providers through talks, workshops and demonstrations on how to do a breast self examination using visual aids, Digital Th ermography Screening, and correct bra fi tting and measurement. Service Provider, Sue Bedford from Pulse Health Screening said: “Th e Breast of Health charity programme off ers help and guidance on breast self-examination along with practical ways for women to maintain a healthy mind and body”.
