1.4 PURPOSE AND ORGANIZATION OF THIS DOCUMENTBased on lessons learned from work done in DoD and industry, this documentdescribes how MRLs should be used in conducting assessments of manufacturingmaturity and suggests how such assessments should be carried out by:1. Acquisition program managers for all programs of record2. Managers for all technology development projects and pre-systemsacquisition technology demonstration projects intending to transition directlyto the acquisition community 223. Thissite provides the latest versions of all MRL-related material and has links to shortcourses and to Air Force training presentations. In addition, training is available on theuse of MRLs. The Air Force Institute of Technology has developed a three-day MRLcourse titled “Assessing Manufacturing Readiness (SYS 213).” The DefenseAcquisition University has also embedded MRL training into several of its courses.22These technology development/demonstration projects include all basic and applied research, science andtechnology, component development, and prototype efforts that are transitioning into an acquisition program.1-9
