UNAM Library maintains the HIV/AIDS database that was launched in March <strong>2007</strong>. Ms RenateMorgenstern attended the NOLNET Resource Centre Committee meetings. Ms Ellen Namhilaserved on the following external committees: <strong>Namibia</strong> Library and Information Council asSecretary, the National Heritage Council as its Chairperson, and member <strong>of</strong> the National Chapteron African Liberation Heritage Committee, among others.6.3.6 ConclusionThe library has a quest to be dynamic, remain relevant and current to the teaching, learningand research needs <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>. In light <strong>of</strong> this, the library has embarked upon a StrategicPlanning Exercise, beginning with the User Needs Assessment Survey carried out in <strong>2007</strong>, whichsought to determine the current user needs. The research results will be used as a planningguide to shape the library’s future direction and become UNAM’s primary gateway for researchand scholarly information. The library also intends to use the research results to make informeddecisions when formulating its Strategic Plan.6.4 OFFICE OF THE DEAN OF STUDENTS6.4.1 IntroductionThe Office <strong>of</strong> the Dean <strong>of</strong> Students (ODS) continued to provide support services to students underthe Leadership <strong>of</strong> Dr. I. Kandjii-Murangi, as the Dean. Mrs. M. Mainga served as Assistant Deanfor Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Services, and Mr. L. Shigwedha served as Assistant Dean for Administration andStudent Services.In the year under review, the Standard Bank Project in <strong>Namibia</strong> and in particular, at UNAMreached 4 years. The Bank Project is a highly prestigious internship program that operates in SA,<strong>Namibia</strong> and other SADC countries. The project has continued to recruit high achiever 3 rd and 4 thyear students from the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Economics and Management Science to work part time for thebank.The ODS hosted a birthday party for the Founding Father and Chancellor <strong>of</strong> UNAM, H.E. Dr. SamNujoma, on 12 th May. The event was attended by Mr. Sacky Nujoma, who stood in for his fatherand delivered his appreciation speech, as well as Hon. P. Shifeta, and Hon. P. Mushelenga. FromUNAM’s side the event was graced by the presence <strong>of</strong> the PVC for Finance and Administration,Mr. Z. Kazapua, who <strong>of</strong>ficiated at the event.The <strong>Annual</strong> UNAM HIV/AIDS Week attracted many students and staff. The main organizingsection, the Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Services Section in the ODS, focused the year’s awareness campaignon the messages <strong>of</strong> knowledge creation around HIV/AIDS, prevention <strong>of</strong> the scourge, and living60
