THE NAVY LEAGUE OF CANADABY-LAWS.11 PERSONS ENTITLED TO VOTEThe Branch President represents the Branch members and votes on their behalf. Each BranchPresident, or their representative (see Clause 5.19.05) has one vote. Each elected member of theDivision Council and active Life Members of the Division has one vote. The provisions of theWeighted Vote (see Clause 5.19.05) may be applied when requested..12 VOTES ON GENERAL QUESTIONS AND RESOLUTIONSEach question for which the law does not require a Special Resolution shall be decided by amajority of votes, by a show of hands, or casting of ballots if so directed by the Chairman. Subjectto Sub-Clause 5.19.11, each person entitled to vote has one vote..13 VOTES ON SPECIAL QUESTIONS AND RESOLUTIONSQuestions requiring a Special Resolution shall be passed only if sixty-seven percent (67%) of thevotes by a show of hands, or casting of ballots if so directed by the Chairman, are in favour of thatResolution. Subject to Sub-Clause 5.19.11, each person entitled to vote has one vote..14 WEIGHTED VOTENotwithstanding the provisions of Sub-Clauses 5.19.12 and 5.19.13, with respect to questionsrelating to the expenditure of money by the Division, if a Weighted Vote is requested by a BranchPresident:(a)Each Division Council Member shall have one (1) vote; and,(b) Each Division Council Member who is also the President of a Branch within theDivision shall have one (1) additional vote for each One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) (or partthereof) which the audited statements for the immediately preceding fiscal year show that hisor her Branch has contributed to the Division in response to an assessment during suchfiscal year..15 EQUALITY OF VOTESIn case of an equality of votes on each side of any question before a meeting of the Division, theChairman of the meeting shall be entitled to an additional, or deciding, vote..16 RESOLUTIONS IN WRITINGIf approved by the Division President, or two (2) Division Vice-Presidents, Division powers may beexercised by a Resolution In Writing signed by all the Division members entitled to vote on thatresolution at a meeting. A Resolution In Writing may be signed in counterpart, but all counterpartstogether shall form only one Resolution In Writing. Within thirty (30) days of the completion of aResolution In Writing, copies shall be forwarded to each Division member..17 ADJOURNED MEETINGSDivision meetings may be adjourned in accordance with Sub-Clause 4.23.17..18 ATTENDANCE FEESDivision members shall not be paid a fee for attending any League meeting, but Division Councilsmay authorize the payment of expenses incurred by members (or Branch representatives, asdescribed in Sub-Clause 5.19.05) to attend any meeting, by resolution.NL(18)E – 7 Feb 2012 29
