The airplane-engine combination must be <strong>ETOPS</strong> type design approvedfor <strong>120</strong>-minute or greater. If approved only up to <strong>120</strong> minute, the FAAmust ensure the airplane time-limited systems support operations up to138 minute in accordance with § 121.633.2. Comply with all part 121 flight operations <strong>and</strong> maintenancerequirements pertaining to <strong>ETOPS</strong> as discussed in Chapter 3 of this <strong>AC</strong>.The certificate holder must conduct training for maintenance, dispatch <strong>and</strong>flightcrew. Training should include any unique aspects of 138 minuteoperations e.g., any additional requirement imposed by the FAA includingMEL requirements.3. Must comply with the “beyond <strong>120</strong>-minute <strong>ETOPS</strong> provisions in theMMEL. If a 180-minute <strong>ETOPS</strong> MMEL does not exist for the airplane,the certificate holder must apply to the FAA for any additional items thatmay be applicable for 138-minute operations.4. 138-minute <strong>ETOPS</strong> authority is used when the route cannot beefficiently operated under <strong>120</strong>-minute <strong>ETOPS</strong>.5. The certificate holder must operate in accordance with the <strong>ETOPS</strong>authority as contained in its OpSpecs.Certificate holderwith <strong>120</strong>-minute<strong>ETOPS</strong> authoritymay apply to theFAA. Theapplication willshow the need forsuch an authority.A modified MELto supportoperations shouldbe submitted withthe application toAFS-200 throughthe certificatesCHDO.This is anextension ofprevious <strong>120</strong>-minute authority.Approval isgranted foroperations up to138 minutes on aflight-by-flightexception basis.6/13/08138minute(forcertificateholderswho arecurrentlyapprovedfor 180-minute<strong>ETOPS</strong>)Unlimited (noarearestriction)1. Theapplication willshow the need forsuch an authority.Since this authorityis less than thecertificate holder’smaximum <strong>ETOPS</strong>authority, it may beexercised on anunlimited basis.
