The secondaspect has been devoted to discussing whether these diasporicactivities indicate the creation of an ethnic identity towards amainstreaming in hegemonic gender and class formations withinthe frame of a capitalist global order.To deal with these aims I have been exploring some centraltopics that the interviewees said about emotions when someof them work to facilitate a public space for the members ofthe diaspora. They explained the different emotions attachedto, for example, September, a month that they said meansdifferent things in terms of emotions. This month is specialin the mythology and the collective drama of Chilean society.18th September is celebrated as the day of the declaration ofindependence from Spain (1810). This marked a break withthe colonial legacy. 4th September was the date when SalvadorAllende won the Chilean elections in 1970, an occasion toremember the establishment of a socialist legacy.
