General Seating Specifications1.0 Frame: Upholstered (non-exposed) frame lumbershall be sound grade, kiln dried (7%), mixed hardwoodsfor strength and dimensional stability. Spring rails shall onlybe oak or hardwood plywood when applicable. Plywoodparts, when used, shall be cut from hardwood plywoodfor structural strength. When style includes exposed woodtrim or integral exposed wood legs, all such parts shall bemilled from kiln dried hardwood, premium grade selectedfree of visual and structural defects, maple or alternatehardwood.2.0 Frame Assembly: All stress points shall be glued andstapled with 16-gauge wire and/or screwed, to achievemaximum strength. Corner blocks and/or steel bracketsreinforce critical joints. All other joints shall be glued andfastened with heavy-duty frame staples. Glue shall bepolyvinyl acetate. Exposed wood parts shall be sanded andthen finished as specified (see “Standard Wood Finishes”herein).3.0 Legs and Casters: Legs shall be fastened to the framewith #12 wood screws in the hardwood frame structure.If carpet or soft linoleum is the primary surface on whichthe chairs will be used, it is recommended to use two (2)front casters, two (2) back casters, or all four (4) casters onboth the front and back. The weight of the chair occupantcombined with the textured surface of carpet or linoleumwill keep the chair from sliding (putting undo stress on theframe). See detailed list for caster availability.4.0 Standard Wood Finish Process: The process isfully approved and licensed by the EPA and meets thetest requirements of the Kitchen Cabinet ManufacturersAssociation, with no visual effect resulting from thosetests. Standard finish shall be comprised of a high solid(over 40%), catalyzed, conversion varnish offering superiorresistance to abrasives and chemicals commonly found ina hospitality environment. This material must be highlyresistant to hot/cold checking and successfully tested totemperature ranges between 120 deg. F to –5 deg. F.The application process shall be as follows:4.1 Exposed wood is first sanded using 150 grit paper andinspected.4.2 Application of color coats (stain, toner or solid colors)per order specification, using HVLP guns. Inspect for color.4.3 Application of conversion varnish sealer. Inspection andreinforcement as needed.4.4 Oven cure at 120 deg. F for five minutes.4.7 Oven cure at 120 deg. F for five minutes.4.8 Shading and/or distressing, as required.4.9 Application of final two topcoats. Inspection andreinforcement as needed.4.10 Oven cure at 120 deg. F for five minutes.4.11 Final inspection and correction as needed.Akin reserves the right to change oralter finishes without prior notice.5.0 Upholstery and cushion foam shall be high resiliency(HR) of varying density and ILD rating, as specified foreach product. All foam, at minimum, shall meet CaliforniaTechnical Bulletin 117 (TB-117), Motor Vehicle SafetyStandard MVSS 302 and international standard BS 5852– Crib-5. Foam cushioning is selected for comfort anddurability; the5.1 Backs: ILD-15 to 20 range, 1.0 lb. density.5.2 Cushions: ILD-28 to 32 range, 1.8 to 2.1 lb. densityrange.5.3 Outer arms/backs are fitted with heavy grade cardboardor synthetic fabric stapled to the frame members andpadded with foam.5.4 All loose cushions (only) shall have HR Foam of ILD-30/2.0 lb. density. Said foam shall meet flammabilityrequirements of TB-117.6.0 Structures feature the following methods:6.1 Certain back structures feature sinuous wire springs(of a specified gauge) fastened to spring rails with soundinsulated steel clips. Steel tie wires are fastened across thesprings. Springs are covered with synthetic spring insulatingcovers and stapled securely to frame members.6.2 Semi-attached back cushion designs are constructedover nylon webbing stretched across back rails.6.3 Seat decks are supported on sinuous springs fastenedsecurely to the spring rails with sound insulated clips. Steeltie wires further secure individual springs. COD orders are not accepted.General InformationCancellationAll acknowledged orders are considered firmorders and are not subject to cancellation.Merchandise Return PolicyAkin manufactures contract furniture made tospecifications of the order; therefore returns arenot allowed. If merchandise needs to be returnedfor repairs, you must secure authorization fromthe Customer Service Department. Merchandisereturned without authorization will be refused.A return authorization number will be issuedfor return of the merchandise. All instructionsmust be followed for proper credit. Akindoes not make cash refunds. Damage due tonegligence, misuse, abuse or outgoing transitis not considered factory defect. Any damageincurred in returning goods because of improperpackaging will be the customer’s responsibility.ShippingPlease furnish shipping and routing instructionswith each order. If no shipping instructionsare received, our transportation departmentwill determine the mode of shipment. Akin willnot be held responsible for delays or failure ofdelivery due to strikes or other labor difficulties;supplier delays; transportation difficulties; riots,fires or accidents; compliance with governmentregulations; Acts of God; or other causesbeyond our control. All delivery dates quotedare approximate only. Disposition of shipmentsrefused by consignee is the responsibility of thebuyer.Partial DeliveriesWe reserve the right to make partial shipments.Invoices for partial shipments are to be paid asthey are due.Freight DamageWe are not responsible for damages orloss incurred in transit. Before acceptingmerchandise from the carrier, furniture shouldJanuary 2012be unpacked and inspected for damages.Damages or shortages should be noted on thedelivery receipt. If there is a loss or damage,make immediate claim with the deliveringcarrier. In case of concealed damage notidentified until furniture is unpacked, keepthe packing, note any loss on the deliveryreceipt and notify the carrier immediately foran inspection. NOTE: Any claims againstthe carrier will be considered only if filedwith the carrier within ten (10) days afterdelivery. Claims against freight companies canbe made by calling the Akin Customer ServiceDepartment. Failure to make such claims shallconstitute acceptance of the merchandise andwaiver of any defects, errors or shortages.We are not liable for consequential damages.All replacement orders for freight damagedmerchandise must be accompanied by acompleted carrier inspection report.DesignsAll dimensions are overall measurements.Dimensions and weights shown are to beconsidered approximate.
