WCAI, Cape and Islands NPR StationMeet the Cape’s Morning ManBy Mindy ToddWCAI’s Managing Director for Editorial and HostWhile most of us still are asleep, Dan Tritle hits the road—the bike pathto be more precise—and heads to work. His routine is the same no matterthe season.“I hit the bike path usually about 4:30am,” says the host of MorningEdition on WCAI. “It’s just me, the moonlight over Vineyard Sound and theoccasional rabbit. It’s a marvelous way of getting energized for the day.”Dan has been the voice of Morning Edition on the Cape since the firstdays of WCAI. Hailing from Seattle, he ventured east after years of reportingfor commercial radio, public radio and the Associated Press.Dan has a fond memory of arriving in Woods Hole on the eve ofMemorial Day weekend in May of 2000 and carrying the WNAN (WCAI’sNantucket station) banner in the Woods Hole Memorial Day Parade, which isfamous for having more people marching in it than watching it. “That oneevent endeared me to the village, and I found a new home on Cape Cod,”he says.WNAN had gone on the airin March, and in September, WCAIwent live. “I still remember thethrill of pressing the button thatenabled us to go on the air with Morning Edition,” he recalls.Dan is a busy guy. In addition to hosting, he is our station’s productioncoordinator. “I love our small staff and the friendly fellowship that we’vecreated amongst ourselves,” he says. “We help each other out whenever wecan. I’m proud of the work we do at WCAI.”When he’s not in the studio, you’ll find Dan bicycling or running theroads in and around Falmouth and Woods Hole. Or you might find himperforming a play at the Cotuit Center for the Arts.Dan also is a big science-fiction fan, and an expert on all things Star Trekand Twilight Zone. He even tackled Star Trek trivia during a WCAI pledge drivea few years ago, proving the Cape has its share of Trekkies. “It brought in anamazing amount of listener contributions,” he says.Morning Edition airs on WCAI weekdays at 6am.What’s on WCAIOnline: capeandislands.orgOn-air: 90.1 Martha’s Vineyard, 91.1 Nantucket, 94.3 Brewster, 89.7 HD3 BostonMonday–Friday5am BBC World Update6am Morning Edition9:30 The Point10am The Diane Rehm Show12pm The Takeaway1pm Fresh Air2pm Talk of the Nation4pm All Things Considered6pm The World7pm Marketplace7:30 The Point8pm Fresh Air9pm PBS NewsHour10pm The Story11pm News from the BBC12am News & Notes5am7am8am10am11am12pm1pm2pm3pm4pm5pm6pm8pm9pm10pm12amSaturdayBBC World Service NewsLiving on EarthWeekend EditionCar TalkWait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!This American LifeThe Moth/RadiolabSplendid TableBill MoyersOn the MediaWeekend All Things ConsideredA Prairie Home CompanionSays You!Selected ShortsAmerican RoutesAfropop WorldwideSunday5am BBC World Service News7am On Being8am Weekend Edition10am Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!11am Bob Edwards Weekend12pm America’s Test Kitchen Radio1pm A Prairie Home Companion3pm To the Best of Our Knowledge4pm Studio 3605pm Weekend All Things Considered6pm This American Life7pm Arts & Ideas11pm On the Media12am Le Show with Harry ShearerEditor Karen HartleyContributors Ron Bachman, Maria Bruno Ruiz,Laura Carlo, Jake Messier, Phil Redo, Susan Reed,Ben Roe, Matt Roy, Mindy ToddDesigner Meryl Brenner, Tong-Mei ChanPhoto Research Julie Ecker, Lynn MasonAssociate Creative Director Alison KennedyDirector, Constituent CommunicationsCynthia BronerAssociate Director Susan ReedDirector of Operations Brian DonovanExplore!, October 2012: Volume 22, Number 10, (ISSN 2152-7458) (USPS 0008 -188).
