2010- Work<strong>for</strong>ce Strategy DraftSouthampton Local Safeguarding <strong>Children</strong> BoardThe <strong>Children</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Young</strong> People’s Trust works in collaboration with <strong>the</strong> Southampton LocalSafeguarding <strong>Children</strong> Board to ensure that all children <strong>and</strong> young people in Southampton achieve<strong>the</strong> best possible outcomes <strong>and</strong> stay safe. The SLSCB has a statutory responsibility to ensurethat single agency <strong>and</strong> inter-agency training is provided so that everyone in <strong>the</strong> work<strong>for</strong>ceunderst<strong>and</strong>s <strong>the</strong>ir responsibilities in relation to safeguarding <strong>and</strong> knows what to do if <strong>the</strong>y suspecta child is at risk of harm.9. Aims of <strong>the</strong> work<strong>for</strong>ce strategySouthampton <strong>Children</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Young</strong> People’s Plan priority 10 focuses on <strong>the</strong> development of <strong>the</strong>Trust as a commissioning organisation with a planning, per<strong>for</strong>mance management <strong>and</strong> qualityassurance role.Our aim across <strong>the</strong> work<strong>for</strong>ce is to facilitate flexibility in training <strong>and</strong> development <strong>and</strong> careerprogression in Southampton to ensure that our children, young people <strong>and</strong> families have access toservices delivered by suitably skilled, qualified <strong>and</strong> motivated staff.We have identified three strategic objectives to achieve our aim:Underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>the</strong> nature of <strong>the</strong> work<strong>for</strong>ce: successful work<strong>for</strong>ce planning can only beachieved through systematic processes supported by robust data, to ensure <strong>the</strong> best useof resources <strong>and</strong> to highlight areas of priority needs relating to recruitment <strong>and</strong> skillsdevelopment.Attracting <strong>and</strong> recruiting <strong>the</strong> best people: effective work<strong>for</strong>ce recruitment <strong>and</strong>deployment across <strong>the</strong> Trust will optimise <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance of staff, provide efficiencysavings <strong>and</strong> support improved outcomes <strong>for</strong> children, young people <strong>and</strong> families whilstensuring safer recruitment practices are in place <strong>and</strong> adhered to.Retaining <strong>and</strong> developing an integrated professional work<strong>for</strong>ce: <strong>the</strong> Trust needs toensure that <strong>the</strong> knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills base of <strong>the</strong> work<strong>for</strong>ce are current, relevant <strong>and</strong>comprehensive.
