The Act introduces <strong>the</strong> idea of “Regulated Activities” involving contactwith children or vulnerable adults. These can be a special type of activity, any activity in aspecial place (<strong>for</strong> example a nursery, school or children’s home), or holding a special position(<strong>for</strong> example teaching, care or supervision). When <strong>the</strong> Act is fully implemented, an individualwill have to be ISA-registered to undertake regulated activity <strong>and</strong> a barred individual will notbe allowed to undertake a regulated activity. It will be <strong>the</strong> responsibility of an employer tocheck that a prospective employee who is in a regulated activity is ISA-registered <strong>and</strong> notbarred. No distinction is made between paid <strong>and</strong> voluntary workxiii.Work<strong>for</strong>ce DataThe National Minimum Data Set – Social Care (NMDS-SC)Since 2006 Skills <strong>for</strong> Care have been ga<strong>the</strong>ring in<strong>for</strong>mation about <strong>the</strong> social care work<strong>for</strong>ce<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> services that are provided. This data collection is providing a clearer picture of <strong>the</strong>shape <strong>and</strong> skills of <strong>the</strong> social care sector which will in<strong>for</strong>m government policy <strong>and</strong> funding.The NMDS-SC includes in<strong>for</strong>mation on both organisations <strong>and</strong> individual employees,addressing numbers, demographics, training <strong>and</strong> recruitment. Although <strong>the</strong> NMDS-SC isaimed primarily at social care employers, it is designed to be suitable <strong>for</strong> some aspects of <strong>the</strong>wider children's work<strong>for</strong>ce.School work<strong>for</strong>ce censusThe School Work<strong>for</strong>ce Census collects comprehensive data on all Teachers <strong>and</strong> SupportStaff. A single database will streng<strong>the</strong>n data security <strong>and</strong> improve <strong>the</strong> accuracy of dataanalysis <strong>for</strong> schools, local authorities <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> DCSF.The census is also intended as a replacement <strong>for</strong> five existing returns: 618G, SecondarySchool Curriculum <strong>and</strong> Staffing Survey (SSCSS), Survey of Teachers' Pay (OME), Survey ofTeacher Resignations <strong>and</strong> Recruitment (NEOST) <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> work<strong>for</strong>ce sections of <strong>the</strong> ASC/SLASC/ PLASC returns.Version 2.6 41
