The Southampton Children and Young People Trust will develop and adopt new ways ofleading, managing and organising services to support the delivery of this plan, with thefullest possible participation of children, young people, parents and carers.Within the Children and Young People’s Plan, the Trust has identified key activities underpinnedby milestones for action, which will be developed for each subsequent year of the plan.12. Delivering the Children and Young People’s Plan throughthe workforce (Priority 10)Southampton children and young people’s services recognise that its most valuable asset is itsworkforce. We need to have the right people with the right skills, knowledge and behaviours in theright place at the right time to deliver care and support to our children and young people.Securing and sustaining high quality services for children, young people and families not onlydepends on the quality of the workforce delivering these services but also on its capacity, that is,there must be sufficient numbers of staff if services are to be maintained and improved.12.1 Whole workforce prioritiesThis section identifies our priorities for the whole of the children and young people’s workforce.Priority 1:Integrated workingIntegrated working promotes effective and efficient ways of working by reducing duplication andincreasing the transferable skills of staff. It supports early intervention and can be particularlyimportant when a child or young person has additional needs to those which are usually met inuniversal services. Priorities 2, 3 and 4 of this strategy will support us in the delivery of integratedworking.What success will look likePeople in the workforce are clear about when and how they need to work together, have the skillsand capacity to do so, and put the child, young person and their family at the centre.How will we achieve this?Developing and implementing locality workingCapacity will be improved by services working closer together in locality teams, thereby reducingthe potential for duplication of effort in areas such as information gathering and commissioning.Over the next three years we will:• Ensure front-line practitioners working in locality teams develop more effective ways ofworking together to identify and tackle problems early.• Identify further opportunities to work together more effectively at both a strategic andoperational level to improve outcomes quickly.• Ensure opportunities to co-locate services improve the co-ordination, ease of access andenvironment for front-line service delivery.Version 2.6 18
