While all the underclassteams saw successin the program, all the waydown to the seventh grade, the varsity went winless. It’s a season to forget, butit’s one of the main reasonsthe Indians are looking torebound for a momentousturnaround in 2013. Newlife has been shot in to theprogram with new coachesand new players, startingwith new offensive and defensivecoordinators. Thenew OC and quarterbackscoach Cole Ford comesfrom Irving MacArthurHigh School. He’s broughtwith him some fresh, creativeideas and some <strong>fire</strong> inhim. He goes to bat for hisoffensive players. While he was still an assistantat MacArthur in theSpring, he was in Sangervery early in the mornings, before his duties in Irving, then back late in the eveningsto help with the 7 on7. He’s at SMS in the earlymorning working with thequarterbacks and backs thisweek.Adam Shaw was namedthe defensive coordinator inthe Spring. He’s been an assistantfor SHS and SMS fora few years and has beenplayer favorite since he’sbeen here. He certainly hashis players backs. He wantedthe defense to look goodin the intra-squad scrimmageafter just one day ofa full pads practice, he wasblitzing Sanger’s offense. The offensive coachesweren’t amused, but somethinghappened in thatscrimmage, which was missinglast year. These playershave chips on their shoulders.“It was a little chippy,”said Sanger head footballcoach Chuck Galbreath. “Ilike it.”It was chippy between, players and coaches. Butafter the scrimmage, theyall came together laughingand talking with one goalin mind. To turn this thingaround. C. Ford said, “I amthe defenses biggest fan, becausethey are going to helpus get the ball back and wingames.”Then there are somenew players in the programin 2013. If you read DaveCampbell’s Texas FootballMagazine it said the DentonBronco’s were building theiroffense around junior runningback Trevon Jackson.Well, Trevon lives in Sangernow with his dad and is amember of the Indians in2013. It’s a gift to C. Fordand the starting junior quarterbackBrandon Mann. Hewill be utilized any way possible,if the first two scrimmagesare any indication.Shaw’s gift was 6’2, 250lbs., junior linebacker WildingSmith, who didn’t playhis freshman and sophomoreseason, but thanksto his baseball coach SteveFord, who coaches defensiveends, is back in the program. He’s a little raw rightnow, but have fun runningbacks doing ISOs at himand Jarrod Huther 6’0”, 200sophomore, who’s extremelystrong. “I think they aretwo of the bigger linebackersin the area,” said Galbreath.Sanger ripped throughSpringtown early and wonthe first scrimmage withthe first teams, but got alittle tired in the end. TheSpringtown coach said toGalbreath, “you guys are 10times better than last year.”The Indians won the Castleberryscrimmage and gotout of town with no injurieson the varsity. Now it’s timeto play this Friday at DallasMadison. Since November,Sanger’s had a clock countingdown to the second thisgame. It starts at 7:30 p.m.at Pleasant Grove Stadiumat 8228 Maddox Street inDallas.Dallas Madison lost toCelina in the second roundof the playoffs last year.Madison will once againbe talented and have a lotof team speed. #4 TreyGardener seems to be theremost dynamic returner. Hewill play running back andbe used as a slot receiverat times. He is not big, buthas great speed and quickness.Madison is a spreadfootball team on offense andwill throw the ball down thefield looking for big playsin the passing game whilealso handing or pitching theball to #4 to try and get himloose in the running game.Madison plays a 4-3 defensewith some zone andman coverage in the secondary. They have big, strong, athletic kids up front. Theyhave good speed in the secondary.Madison graduated severalseniors from last year soalthough they are still veryathletic they are inexperiencedin areas and Sangerwill attempt to take advantageof that aspect of theirteam.“We are coming off avery tough rebuilding seasonthat was plagued withinjuries and disappointment,”said Galbreath. “Theplayers and coaches startedin November working to rebuildthis program and getSanger Football back whereit needs to be. These playershave put the work in andare prepared for a successfulseason.”On offense Sanger willrely on a veteran offensiveline, great leader in quarterbackBrandon Mann andtalented skill kids includingrunning backs Tre’VonJackson and Derek Shelbyand receiver Wyatt Broxson. On defense Sanger returnsseveral players includingdefensive end Dalton Hassell, linebacker Will Carter, cornerbacks Kion Evansand Wyatt Broxson. Asmentioned above, the Indianswill feature two of thebigger linebackers in thearea with Jarrod Huther andWilding Smith.“To say we are excitedto take the field on Fridaywould be a huge understatement. It has been a longoff-season and the Indiansare ready to get our seasonstarted.”Sanger News Prediction:The Indians will be 7-3and take second in the District9-3A.Thursday @ Indian Stadiumvs. Madison: 9th football-6 pm, JV - 7:30 pm.Coach Cole Ford with some of his offensive toys Turner Barnes, Trevon Jackson, WyattBroxson, Brandon Mann and Derek Shelby.
