SafetyCo-Curricular OpportunitiesSchool Building EvacuationIf there is an emergency that requires school evacuation, students must follow their teacher’s direction to the evacuation site. Students must move quickly and respond to the directions of staff. Students are required to remain with their class group. Students will return to the school when told it is safe to do so. Students are encouraged to participate in co-‐curricular activities provided at the SRSS. Several opportunities are explained below. Fire Drill ProceduresPeriodic fire drills will be held during the school year. The following steps must be followed: 1. Evacuate the building immediately if the alarm rings. Students should leave the classrooms without gathering belongings or stopping at their lockers. They should exit in an orderly manner following the evacuation routes as marked. Students should remain in their lines well away from the building, so teachers may do roll call. 2. Teachers should take class lists and attendance sheets, exiting after the last student has left. Leave the lights on and the door closed and unlocked. School CancellationThere may be times when school will be cancelled because of bad weather or due to some emergency. School closing announcements will be made over the radio stations CHSM AM 1250 and MIX FM 96.7 at 6:30 a.m. School closing will also be noted on the Hanover School Division website: www.hsd.ca Video SurveillanceThe SRSS has video cameras inside and outside the school building.
