Summit Day One: The Programme 21 AprilThe questions are tough – and they’regetting tougherIn an increasingly short term world, long term vision, and long term infrastructure provision, remains vital for success. For the Travel & Tourism industry that success depends on co-operationnot only from, and between, the companies and the individuals who comprise that industrybut also between them and their host governments who make a crucial contribution tothe existence of a predictable, safe and attractive environment and who supply much of theinfrastructure on which the industry depends. Identifying this need for co-operation leaves openthe question of what is the “right” thing to do and how to achieve vital balances: particularlythe balance between the growth in Travel & Tourism with the protection of the globalenvironment and how to achieve higher quality Travel & Tourism at a cost which is accessibleto customers. Government, industry and the individual all now have to examine where theysit on this balance and what each of them can do. How can we get the right strategy, the rightstructure and the right people? This session aims to:• Provoke long-term thinking about the future ofTravel & Tourism;• Elicit views from destinations, Travel & Tourismcompanies and governments on partnershipsand balances.16.00 – 17.25 Panel DiscussionModerator:Robert Webb QC, General Counsel, British AirwaysLead Contributors:The Honourable Predrag Nenezić, Minister of Tourism & Environment,MontenegroGeoff Muirhead CBE, Group Chief Executive, Manchester Airports GroupAlan Parker, Chief Executive, Whitbread PLCSarmad Zok, Chief Executive Officer, Kingdom Hotel Investments17.25 – 17.30 Closing REMARKSJean-Claude Baumgarten, President & CEO, World Travel & Tourism Council19
