(Continued).<strong>and</strong> excessive heat <strong>and</strong> can prevent fire damage toproperty, plants, <strong>and</strong> wildlife.• Consult the USDA Natural Resources ConservationService <strong>and</strong> evaluate the site for water table <strong>and</strong>proper soil conditions.• Use refractory boxes for air-curtain burning systemswhere the site has a high water table (< 2 ftfrom the bottom of a planned trench) or rocky soil<strong>and</strong> where the construction of trenches is difficult<strong>and</strong> costly.• When choosing an appropriate site for carcassburial, consider sites that are a minimum of 150 ftfrom private wells, springs, watercourses, sinkholes,streams, springs (or any source of water usedfor domestic purposes), <strong>and</strong> public areas; 200 ftfrom residences or property lines; 500 ft from publicwells; 1,000 ft for the burial of disease-infectedcarcasses from public <strong>and</strong> private water-supplywells; <strong>and</strong> 1,325 ft from public roads, highways,<strong>and</strong> parks.• The composting site should be at least 3 ft abovethe high water table level <strong>and</strong> 300 ft from sensitivewater resources (such as streams, ponds <strong>and</strong> wells,etc.).
