Ignitions Systems750049 Ignition module onlyS&S INTELLIGENT SPARK TECHNOLOGY IGNITIONThe heart of the Intelligent Spark Technology ECU module is asophisticated computerized ECU module that integrates data fromsensors that other ignition systems are not designed to use. The S&Ssystem makes use of a crank position sensor, cam position sensor (ifpresent), MAP sensor, cylinder head temperature sensor, and anexclusive knock sensor that actually detects detonation or knock whilethe engine runs. The knock sensor allows the ECU to automaticallyadjust ignition timing to eliminate knock whenever it occurs.In addition,the system "remembers" the conditions that cause the engine to knockand automatically adjusts the ignition timing to prevent it when thoseconditions reoccur. On the other hand, when conditions allow forincreased ignition timing, the system will advance timing as far aspossible without causing the engine to knock. In effect, he system"learns" the ignition requirements of a particular engine and writes acustom ignition map for it. Installation kits for Evolution enginesalso include a MAP sensor, and a cam position sensor that is installedin place of the stock timing rotor and pickup. MAP sensor and camposition sensor are not included in the kits for Twin Cam models asthese kits make use of the OEM sensor.Kits for SuperSideWinder "Plus"engines also include a MAP sensor and a Twin Cam style crankshaftposition sensor since these crankcases and flywheels are machined toaccept this.
