Macias, MBA, CCEP, CGMS, SeniorDirector, Corporate Compliance, Office ofAccountability, Compliance and Ethics (ACE),Audit & Risk Management/SST1) Why did you decide to get certified?Nearly two years ago, our board and senior leadershipdecided to develop a formal corporate complianceprogram and asked if I had any interest inassisting in the design and implementation phasefor a 6 to 18 month “secondment.” I was asked toconsider the assignment, given my background inthe Legal department supporting government grantcompliance. Our VP of Audit and Risk ManagementServices recommended the SCCE CCEP as a wayto gather the information and skills necessary to besuccessful. The organization supported me in thecertification process in November 2009, and as theysay, the rest is history! Within the first 6 monthsof the secondment, I was “hooked” and when theactual position was posted, I applied. I am currentlythe Senior Director of The Office of Accountability,Compliance, and Ethics for World Vision, Inc.2) Has obtaining the CCEP certificationhelped you? If so, in what ways?Yes, very much so. The materials, information(e.g. The Complete Compliance and Ethics Manual, books, and other resources) as well as the excellentinstruction provided at the Academy have assistedme in the customization of a corporate complianceand ethics program for my organization. Certificationshows a true commitment to the profession anda way to embrace a specific body of knowledge. In addition, the CCEP certification provides a wayof showing a level of expertise and respect fromcolleagues, as well as other professionals in theprofession. I don’t know how anyone can design, develop, implement, and keep such a program currentand relevant without a strong foundation and networkof other professionals to draw from. In today’sworld, professional certification is a valuable asset, both for the individual, as well as their organization!
