11Albert H S Cheung JPRetired as Senior Manag<strong>in</strong>g Director <strong>in</strong> 2007The scene of my first visit to the office of Levettand Bailey <strong>in</strong> <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> <strong>in</strong> the summer of 1968 fora job <strong>in</strong>terview upon my gradu<strong>at</strong>ion with a QSdiploma is still very vivid <strong>in</strong> my memory even now,five years after my retirement as the SeniorManag<strong>in</strong>g Director of the firm <strong>in</strong> 2007. I met thetwo founders of the firm, the l<strong>at</strong>e Mr. David A.Bailey and Mr. Denis G. Levett for the first time andaccepted their offer of a position of QuantitySurvey<strong>in</strong>g Assistant with little idea th<strong>at</strong> it was thebeg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of my lifetime career with the firm th<strong>at</strong>spanned over almost forty years.Bucknall would not have been able to becomewh<strong>at</strong> it is today.I would like to convey my congr<strong>at</strong>ul<strong>at</strong>ions to RiderLevett Bucknall on the <strong>50</strong>th anniversary of itsestablishment <strong>in</strong> <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> and I wish the firmcont<strong>in</strong>ued success <strong>in</strong> many years to come and allthe best to every one of the presentmanagement and staff.Also still very vivid <strong>in</strong> my memory are the firsttimes th<strong>at</strong> I met the other Directors of the firm <strong>in</strong>their freshman days when they came to the officefor the first time for their job <strong>in</strong>terviews. They wereall the best of the best from their classes.Together, we have we<strong>at</strong>hered many challenges andcrises, economic and otherwise th<strong>at</strong> theconstruction <strong>in</strong>dustry had to face <strong>in</strong> the pastseveral decades and have come out stronger thanever.I feel most privileged to be personally <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong>the formul<strong>at</strong><strong>in</strong>g era of the practice see<strong>in</strong>g it grewfrom a small ten men office to an <strong>in</strong>tern<strong>at</strong>ionalfirm with hundreds of staff <strong>in</strong> the region andthousands of staff world wide. I would like to takethis opportunity to thank all our clients, fellowprofessionals and friends for their support andtrust over the years, without which Rider LevettSome of Levett and Bailey staff <strong>in</strong> 19991999
