11Albert H S Cheung JPRetired as Senior Managing Director in 2007The scene of my first visit to the office of Levettand Bailey in Hong Kong in the summer of 1968 fora job interview upon my graduation with a QSdiploma is still very vivid in my memory even now,five years after my retirement as the SeniorManaging Director of the firm in 2007. I met thetwo founders of the firm, the late Mr. David A.Bailey and Mr. Denis G. Levett for the first time andaccepted their offer of a position of QuantitySurveying Assistant with little idea that it was thebeginning of my lifetime career with the firm thatspanned over almost forty years.Bucknall would not have been able to becomewhat it is today.I would like to convey my congratulations to RiderLevett Bucknall on the 50th anniversary of itsestablishment in Hong Kong and I wish the firmcontinued success in many years to come and allthe best to every one of the presentmanagement and staff.Also still very vivid in my memory are the firsttimes that I met the other Directors of the firm intheir freshman days when they came to the officefor the first time for their job interviews. They wereall the best of the best from their classes.Together, we have weathered many challenges andcrises, economic and otherwise that theconstruction industry had to face in the pastseveral decades and have come out stronger thanever.I feel most privileged to be personally involved inthe formulating era of the practice seeing it grewfrom a small ten men office to an internationalfirm with hundreds of staff in the region andthousands of staff world wide. I would like to takethis opportunity to thank all our clients, fellowprofessionals and friends for their support andtrust over the years, without which Rider LevettSome of Levett and Bailey staff in 19991999
