YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD FINALISTSDr. Hibret Amare Adissu: Dr. Adissu received his D.V.M. from the Addis Ababa University inEthiopia in 1993 and his M.S. in Comparative Experimental <strong>Medicine</strong> from the University <strong>of</strong> Tennesseein 2002. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Cell Biology in the graduate training program at PurdueUniversity and is also a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Academic Teaching Fellow in the BasicMedical Sciences Department at Purdue. Dr. Adissu is a pr<strong>of</strong>essional member <strong>of</strong> the American Society<strong>of</strong> Cell Biologists, the Ethiopian <strong>Veterinary</strong> Association, and Omicron Chapter <strong>of</strong> Phi Zeta, the HonorSociety for <strong>Veterinary</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong>Dr. Megan A. Albertelli: Dr. Albertelli received her D.V.M. in 1999 and her M.S. in Small AnimalClinical Sciences in 2001, both from the University <strong>of</strong> Michigan. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. fromthe same institution in Human Genetics in the Department <strong>of</strong> Human Genetics and Unit for LaboratoryAnimal <strong>Medicine</strong>. Dr. Albertelli is the recipient <strong>of</strong> the James V. Neel Fellowship Award from theUniversity <strong>of</strong> Michigan and is in the final stages <strong>of</strong> her graduate program.Dr. Nicola Mason: Dr. Mason received her B.V.M. from the University <strong>of</strong> London in 1992 and a Ph.D.from the University <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania in Immunology in 2004. She is currently pursuing a PhD in CancerImmunology from the same institution. Dr. Mason was a Small Animal Intern at the University <strong>of</strong>Bristol from 1993-1995 and a Small Animal Internal <strong>Medicine</strong> Resident at the University <strong>of</strong>Pennsylvania from 1995-1997. From 2000-2003, Dr. Mason was a Research Associate, during whichtime she received her PhD. Presently, she is a Senior Research Investigator and Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor inthe Department <strong>of</strong> Pathobiology and Clinical Studies at University <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania.Dr. Sherry T. Shu: Dr. Shu received her B.V.M. from the National Taiwan University in Taipei,Taiwan, in 2000. Dr. Shu was a Research Associate at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in SantaMonica, California from 2000-2003 and is currently a Research Associate at The Ohio <strong>State</strong> University.She received her M.S in Molecular Endocrinology from The Ohio <strong>State</strong> University in 2005 and iscurrently pursuing her Ph.D. from the same institution.Dr. Katherine Kay Williamson: Dr. Williamson received her D.V.M. from Iowa <strong>State</strong> University in1996. She then became the Assistant <strong>State</strong> Veterinarian. Dr. Williamson was in private equine practicesfrom 1999-2002 in Oklahoma. From 2002-2005 she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Oklahoma <strong>State</strong>University College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Veterinary</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> and is currently a Research Associate at that university.ALTERNATE:Dr. Vimal Selvaraj: Dr. Selvaraj received his B.V.Sc. from the Madras <strong>Veterinary</strong> College in India in2000 and his M.S. in Reproductive Immunology from the University <strong>of</strong> Illinois in 2003. He is currentlypursuing a Ph.D. in Reproductive Physiology and is acting as a Graduate Research Assistant at CornellUniversity, where he was also a post-DVM fellow and Graduate Teaching Assistant in 2004 and 2005,respectively.21
