The well-being services are delivered in areas <strong>of</strong> high deprivation <strong>and</strong> hard to reach groups in each <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> six Gloucestershire local authority districts using local community facilities <strong>and</strong> engagement withvoluntary organisations that have ensured community ownership <strong>and</strong> a high level <strong>of</strong> engagement.The project is used as a vehicle to signpost to community based exercise sessions, health workshopsfor healthy eating, stress, depressions, drug/alcohol related illnesses <strong>and</strong> health MOT’s, walking,cycling, green gyms <strong>and</strong> community gardens.Project outcomesImproved mental health through increased levels <strong>of</strong> physical activity <strong>and</strong> social interactionPrimary <strong>and</strong> secondary prevention <strong>of</strong> long term chronic conditionsFalls prevention-link into later lifeReferrals from <strong>the</strong> Healthy Lifestyles programmes [exercise referral]Community cohesion brought toge<strong>the</strong>r by <strong>the</strong> participation in physical activity sessionsKeeping people well <strong>and</strong> living longer, which means:Not only adding life to years, but years to life <strong>and</strong> will require preventing <strong>and</strong> promoting health <strong>and</strong>well-being by tackling some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> biggest health issues <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 21 st century such as our agingpopulation, increasing levels <strong>of</strong> migration <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> rising level <strong>of</strong> childhood obesity.Project overviewThe Be Healthy, Be Happy Gloucestershire project delivers a wide range <strong>of</strong> programmes <strong>and</strong> servicesthat include:Community based exercise <strong>and</strong> physical activity sessionsSheltered housing active <strong>and</strong> able sessionsHealth workshopsWalks for Health programmesCounty wide annual Walks for Health eventGreen Gym/Community gardens programmesThe people that have mostly benefited from <strong>the</strong> project are:People over <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 45yrs with sedentary lifestylesChildren under <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 16yrs who have ‘opted’ out <strong>of</strong> physical activityPeople who experience poor health or particular medical conditions i.e. obesity, high bloodpressure, arthritis <strong>and</strong> mental healthBME populationsIndividuals <strong>and</strong> families from deprived communitiesImmigrant/migrant populationPeople at risk <strong>of</strong> developing a chronic/long term illness associated with a sedentary lifestyle189 SWWB Final Evaluation Report
