The Initial Grant is in its third year <strong>and</strong> delivers a weeklyCardio Fit class in <strong>the</strong> East End <strong>of</strong> Plymouth <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> provision <strong>of</strong> weekly Access to Swimming. TheSecond Grant is in its first year <strong>and</strong> delivers two weekly Tai Chi classes in Efford <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> East End <strong>of</strong>Plymouth.BackgroundElder Tree Ltd is a Voluntary Support <strong>and</strong> Befriending Service that has operated in <strong>the</strong> South West,Central <strong>and</strong> South East neighbourhoods <strong>of</strong> Plymouth for <strong>the</strong> past 15 years – predominately inner city<strong>and</strong> areas <strong>of</strong> recognised social deprivation. The service reaches out to socially isolated <strong>and</strong>vulnerable older people to promote <strong>the</strong>ir continued independent living, social engagement <strong>and</strong>access to social <strong>and</strong> health related activities.Elder Tree <strong>of</strong>fers a range <strong>of</strong> support, although dedicated ‘one to one’ Befriending for <strong>the</strong> morevulnerable <strong>and</strong> socially isolated is a core activity. The service <strong>of</strong>fers social <strong>and</strong> health <strong>the</strong>medactivities that include Lunch <strong>and</strong> Supper clubs, Silver Surfer IT classes, weekly ‘Advice Drop Ins’,Dance <strong>and</strong> Movement classes, Access to Swimming, Tai Chi, Cardio Fit for <strong>the</strong> over 60s <strong>and</strong> Quiz <strong>and</strong>Craft activities.The Elder Tree currently has 62 volunteers <strong>and</strong> 350 beneficiaries who we are in contact with weekly.The service is QUAF level C validated <strong>and</strong> Adult Social Services <strong>and</strong> Supporting People recentlycommissioned Elder Tree to manage <strong>the</strong> delivery <strong>of</strong> a Befriending Umbrella Service in all sixneighbourhoods in Plymouth over three years.
