jobseeker’s supportsSecti<strong>on</strong> F: Jobseeker’s SupportsThe statistics in this secti<strong>on</strong> of the report relate to the Live Register, expenditure and recip<strong>ie</strong>nts of jobseeker’spayments;Live Register and Jobseeker’s PaymentsThe Live Register is a m<strong>on</strong>thly statistical count compiled by the Central Statistics Office of certain categor<strong>ie</strong>s ofpers<strong>on</strong>s registered with the Department of <strong>Social</strong> Protecti<strong>on</strong> for Jobseeker’s Benefit, Jobseeker’s Allowance andcredited <strong>Social</strong> Insurance c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>s.The Live Register comprises of the following classes of people under the age of 65 years:(i)(ii)(iii)all claimants of Jobseeker’s Benefit excluding systematic short-time workers,applicants for Jobseeker’s Allowance excluding smallholders and self-employed pers<strong>on</strong>s,other registrants including applicants for credited <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Welfare</strong> c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>s but excluding thosedirectly involved in an industrial dispute.This means that not all pers<strong>on</strong>s who are in receipt of Jobseeker’s Benefit or Allowance are <strong>on</strong> the Live Register.Some pers<strong>on</strong>s who are included <strong>on</strong> the Live Register e.g. applicants for credited c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>s, are not in receiptof a Jobseeker’s Benefit or Allowance payment.62The jobseeker’s recip<strong>ie</strong>nts figure shown in Secti<strong>on</strong> A and tables F3 and F4 is not directly comparable with the LiveRegister figure, as this figure <strong>on</strong>ly includes those who were in receipt of a payment at the end of December.TrendsOverall expenditure <strong>on</strong> Jobseeker’s Supports increased by 79.1% over 2008.Expenditure <strong>on</strong> Jobseeker’s Benefit and Jobseeker’s Allowance rose by nearly €805 milli<strong>on</strong> and €846 milli<strong>on</strong>compared with 2008, increases of 86.7% and 73.0% respectively.The Live Register increased by 132,232 during <strong>2009</strong>, an increase of 45.4%.
