This represents anincrease of 20.6% on 2008. Expenditure on Rent Supplements rose by over €70 million in 2009, an increase of15.9%. The number of recipients of Rent Supplement at the end of 2009 was 93,030, an increase of 25.6% on2008.80Expenditure on Mortgage Interest Supplements increased by 120.0% to €60.9 million. The number of recipientsat the end of 2009 increased to 14,716 an increase of 92.4%.In 2009, a Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance was paid in respect of 277,713 children, anincrease of 77,467 on 2008. Expenditure on the scheme increased by 35.4% to €67.1 million.Net expenditure on Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance payments in 2009 was €233.5 million, an increaseof 26.6% on 2008. There were 42,775 recipients of Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance payments at theend of 2009, an increase of 7,229 on 2008.Table H2 and Graph H1 shows expenditure on Supplementary Welfare Allowance from 2000 to 2009.<strong>Statistical</strong> <strong>Information</strong> on Social Welfare Services 2009
