<strong>Waggener</strong> Alumni Necrology and Family Obituaries:James Warren May (61)BLOOMINGTON MAY, MARTHA ADAMS, 95, died at home at Redbud Hills, Wednesday,March 22, 2006. Known to many as "Meme," she was a loving wife and mother. Her family andfriends joyfully experienced on a daily basis her creativity, her wit, her eternal optimism, andmost of all, her love. They witnessed her ability to turn routine tasks into exciting adventures, tofind something fascinating in every person she met, and to live each day to its fullest. She wasborn in Lexington, KY on March 12, 1911, and graduated from the University of Kentucky,where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She taught in the Fayette County Public<strong>School</strong>s and the University of Kentucky Laboratory <strong>School</strong>. After moving with her husband toLouisville, she was active in the Louisville Arts Club, the Filson Club, Big Spring Country Club,and Crescent Hill Methodist Church. She was a leader in the Parent Teachers Association at thelocal, district, and state levels, serving as President of the <strong>Waggener</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> PTA. She also was a member of theAmerican Association of University Women, and served as editor of the AAUW Bulletin. Writing poetry was a lifetimepassion, which she pursued as a regular contributor to the Scribblers creative writing group in Louisville. A book of herpoems "Reflections," was published in 1985. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, James W. May of Bloomington,IN; her son, Dr. James W. May, Jr. (Linda) of Lincoln, MA; her daughter, Martha M. McCarthy (George) of Bloomington,IN; her grandchildren; James W. May III of Park City, UT, Dr. Alison C. May of San Francisco, CA, Kari A. Kuh of LasVegas, NV, and Kristian R. Kuh of Chicago, IL. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers,contributions can be made to Habitat for Humanity or Bloomington Hospital Hospice.
