FOREIGN LANGUAGE2013 – 2014 <strong>Waller</strong> I.S.D. <strong>Junior</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>Course</strong> Offerings7 th - 8 th Spanish I 1 credit(<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Credit)Prerequisite: None<strong>Course</strong> Description: An elementary introduction to the Spanish language beginning with oral Spanish of everyday lifesituations. It progresses to more difficult language patterns and a study of two simple tenses. Grammar patterns necessary forthe comprehension of the language are studied. Speaking, writing, reading, and comprehension of the language are studied andexperienced. Materials used include audiovisuals made by native Spanish teachers. One high school credit is awarded if thestudent earns an average of 70 or above at the end of the school year and meets the 90% attendance requirement.Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated by using only credits earned on the high school campus.8 th Spanish II 1 credit(<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Credit)Prerequisite: Spanish I credit<strong>Course</strong> Description: Grammar patterns are extended to include additional tenses. Reading lessons are concerned with theHispanic nations, their history, culture, economy, etc. More time is devoted to reading and writing language than the first year.Speaking and comprehending the spoken language are still primary aims.
