The battle that whale(shy and at the age of 23)is waging is against timeto adapt to life in the openocean, where biologistsstruggle to minimize itsdependence on humansand to teach it to fish andhow to deal with other largewhales, before they migratefrom its home, in the Gulf ofRock Iceland.The whale took trips in theocean to catch up withthe herds of great whales.However, after 21 years of lifein captivity, it is lacking thesocial skills that enable theherds to accept it as one ofthem. It always came backto the boat of its guard afterit was rejected by the herds!One official said that freeingKeiko is like having a shyperson in the center of aroom full of strangers. If weonly know what is going onits mind; why it always comesback after being in contactwith other whales? Whatgoes on between them? Noone can know!The Assembly had trainedKeiko, on the Icelandicbeach for three years,to increase its fitness inpreparation for freedom,to join the North Atlanticwhales that migrate, in herds,tracing the migration routesof their food of the herringfish. Although Keiko’s healthqualifies it to live in the opensea, its freedom dependson the desire to join one ofmigratory herds. So, it mustdepend on itself in searchof socializing with other freewhales!However, it seems thatteaching Keiko to act,opened the way for otherwhales to learn the art ofsinging, but without theatersor orchestras.
