1950s 47by one's whim. It is science it has to belearnt from the proper sources. ShriKrishna is not a man in flesh and bloodand His Leela was not meant for interpretationby any mundane scholar. There isway to learn it and unless we have it ourenergy will be spoiled only by attendingany layman's hypocricy. I had a mind tosay you something about it but you havedenied my co-operation and I have nothingto say about it. I hope you will thinkover this in your Iiesure hours and oblige .Thanks.Yours faithfully,58-5Bombay2nd August, 1958My dear Harbanslal Ji,I am very glad to learn that you havenow gone to fo reign countries for tour onbusiness as well as cultural mission and Ihope that you are enjoying there both yourgood health as well as the trouting experience. We had a German friend Indiandomiciled for the last 20 years who is agreat scholar in several languages. Heused to say that in Germany specially, wherever an Indian goes specially the student, the Germans receive him well in theproportion of his Indian cultural knowledge.Scholars and thinkers in Europespecially in Germany and Russia know itwell that for learning about culturalknowledge, no body can surpass the Indianswho have a back ground of centuriesengaged in spiritual investigation.According to Indian way of thought, every one is advised to do good to othersnamely not only to the human society butalso to living beings other than human being. The Indians are not cow worshippersas others wrongly interpret it, but the Indiansare gratitudeful to the species of cowfor supplying milk to the human babiesand the sentiment is so fine that simply forsupplying milk the cow is accepted as oneof the seven mothers. That is called Indiancultural mission. We should learn to lookupon every living being as our ownbrother and treat him in that love . MahatmaGandhi's philosophy began fromthis philosophy of universal brotherhoodwhich is not restricted to the human kindbut to all the species of life. That is thesign of real intelligence. In the BhagwatGeeta it is stated that a learned man looksupon a well educated Brahmin who is wellbehaved by education and so also upon achandala who is accustomed to eat thedogs. And what is the purport of this equalvision? The purport is that we should lookupon every one as the spark of the SupremeBrahman and we should not lookupon the outer dress which every one hasto give up one birth after another. I hopeyou will preach this Indian way of thinkingevery where in the foreign countrieswherever you will have the opportunity. Ithink that people need this Indian messagein this hour of necessity when the atomicbomb is hovering over the head of the humansociety. You know that I am attached with onecultural mission of the name of the Leagueof Devotees as well as Indian culturalCongress which is trying to broad castethis message of Pa ropakara. The standardof Paropakara should be such as will beuseful both in the current life as well aslife after death . Every sane man thinks ofPa ropakara in that way. Temporary sensegratification is not real Pa ropakara .Please therefore begin these Pa ropakaraactivities in the foreing countries as youhave gone there. I think your going thereis another __ preaching the Indianculture as above mentioned. I shall beglad to be in touch with you by correspondenceso that I may be giving you my humblesuggestion fo r this service.By the by by I may inform you that, asyou know I am passing my days in
