I beg toacknowledge receipt of your letter datedJanuary 9, 1969. Krishna is pleased uponyou so that He is responding to your sincereservice. In the Bhagavad Gita theLord says that He responds proportionatelyalong with the degree of surrender toHim by the devotee. So the spiritual progressthat you are making now is duly beingresponded to by Krishna. Of course it isthe duty of the teacher to instruct his pupilrightly, but to pass the examination witha degree and merit depends upon thestudent himself. But the teacher is alwayshappy when he sees one of his studentshas surpassed the capacity of theteacher also. That is an occasion ofgreat jubilation. Please therefore prosecuteyour Hare Krishna vibrations alongwith your good wife, and certainlyKrishna will see that all of your attemptswill be successful .I am very glad to note when you writeto say that both you and Himavati missyour sleep and go to bed late . ByKrishna's grace, Himavati is not onlybeautiful externally, but she is beautifulwithin also. Otherwise how she can saythat you may have the license for sensegratification but what will you do with thislicense? A brahmachary is good for livinga life of celibacy, but a person who canlive a life of celibacy in the presence of abeautiful and obliging wife is more than abrahmachary. Of course anyone who isstuck up with only one wife is also calledbrahmachary. You will set a very good exampleif both of you agree not to havesense gratification anymore and still youremain as husband and wife together. Thisis possible, however, only if both of youare fixed up in Krishna Consciousness activities.I thank you very much for yoursincere endeavor to do this activity.Concerning the house, if it is possibleto rent it with an option to purchase thatwill be very nice. My Guru Maharaj instructedus, especially to me, that it is betterto remain in a rented house than topurchase our own place, but actually Hehad constructed many temples during Hislifetime. The idea is that if things can bedone without any extra endeavor, that isall right. If purchasing a house becomescause of our extra anxiety, we shouldavoid it. But if by the grace of Krishna itcan be easily done, there is no harm ofhaving our own house. Anyway, if thishouse is suitable for a temple and for prasaddistribution, we must have it at anycost. You may do as it is best by consultingKrishna.Regarding the examination, you are alreadya passed student so don't be afraidof it. When the examination will be held,you will find the questions so easy thatwithin a few minutes you shall be able toanswer them all.
