All digging <strong>to</strong> be confined <strong>to</strong>existing pits and no new pit <strong>to</strong> be opened without the consent in writing of the Board first obtained under the handof their Clerk.FiresRanger Kirby reports that on the 28th November last at 9 p.m. a fire occurred near Pound Gate School, burningabout 6 rods, which he extinguished, and he thinks it was started by school children.The Clerk reads a letter dated 5th inst. from Mr. Alfred Hoath of Withyham mentioning that a fire occurred about12 months ago at Church Hill caused by Arnold’s trac<strong>to</strong>r engine hauling s<strong>to</strong>ne for the roads which consumed about3 acres and which, if it had not promptly been put out by William Heasman, Edward Taylor and Obed Avis, mighthave burned a considerable part of the <strong>Forest</strong>, and suggesting they should be paid 2/6 each out of the Rates, alsothat he, Mr. Hoath, Taylor and a lad named Weeding, s<strong>to</strong>pped another fire caused by sawing tackle taken up2<strong>Ashdown</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>His<strong>to</strong>rical</strong> <strong>Minute</strong> <strong>Book</strong>
