Golf Club drainageIt is Resolved that the Clerk write <strong>to</strong> the Surveyor of the East Grinstead Rural District Council reminding him thatthe surface of the <strong>Forest</strong> has not been properly levelled and the sods have not been properly re-laid and state thatthe Board will be much obliged if he will have these matters attended <strong>to</strong> and cause the surplus soil which has beenlaid on the <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>to</strong> be deposited in the sand pit near Mr. Faber’s in a spot <strong>to</strong> be approved by the Committee.Also that Ranger Brown do what he can <strong>to</strong> cover up the s<strong>to</strong>nes over the manholes, which are now exposed.Weir C.B. cut litterA letter dated the 19th May last from Mr. C.B. Weir of Duckings Withyham <strong>to</strong> Ranger Brown is read, in which Mr.Weir states he understands he is allowed <strong>to</strong> cut litter on the <strong>Forest</strong> on payment of 6d per load and enclosing 1/- for2 loads cut.The Clerk reports that the effect of the correspondence which he had with Mr. Weir <strong>to</strong> the effect that his propertyis not entitled <strong>to</strong> rights of common and states that Mr. Weir is evidently referring <strong>to</strong> cases where consent has beengiven for heath and furze <strong>to</strong> large for litter <strong>to</strong> be cut on payment of 6d per loadIt is Resolved that the Clerk reply <strong>to</strong> Mr. Weir’s letter explaining the matter.Trollope P.A. application for campA letter is read dated 13th ul<strong>to</strong>, from Mr. P.A. Trollope of 151 Latham Road, East Ham, asking permission forhimself and a friend <strong>to</strong> erect a tent and camp on the <strong>Forest</strong> for a week in August.It is Resolved that Mr. Trollope be informed that the Board cannot grant the request.Mr. Somer<strong>to</strong>n Bye-Law BoardA letter is read from Mr. Somer<strong>to</strong>n asking the Conserva<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> erect a Bye Law board on St. John’s Common with aview <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>pping abuses.George Innes application <strong>to</strong> improve trackThe Clerk reports that he received a letter from Mr. George Innes of Mount Pleasant Farm. Fairwarp askingpermission <strong>to</strong> metal and make up a short length of the road leading from Mr. Lovell’s road <strong>to</strong> his (Mr. Innes) yardgate and that he referred it <strong>to</strong> the Maresfield CommitteeSylvanus Ridley <strong>Forest</strong> track blockedA letter is read dated the 31st ul<strong>to</strong>, from Mr. Sylvanus Ridley complaining that the exit of a <strong>Forest</strong> Road on <strong>to</strong> thehighroad from Toll farm <strong>to</strong> Fairwarp has been blocked by deposit of road materials by the Uckfield Rural DistrictCouncil and that the Council have declined <strong>to</strong> take any action.Mr. Ridley attends before the Board and explains the matter and is informed that the Board will consider it.The Maresfield Committee present the following reports which are read and it is Resolved that they be received andentered on the <strong>Minute</strong>s namely:-R.E. Camp near PippingfordMessrs Turner and Sandford inspected the site of the Engineers camp on <strong>Ashdown</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> near Pippingford Parkon Saturday July 11th 1914. They found the site in first class condition. Everything had been cleared up verysatisfac<strong>to</strong>rily. In fact, the surface of the <strong>Forest</strong> was very much improved. Thirty shillings will be paid by the WarOffice <strong>to</strong> purchase grass seeds <strong>to</strong> be sown at the proper time next spring on the few bare spots which will be then25<strong>Ashdown</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> <strong>His<strong>to</strong>rical</strong> <strong>Minute</strong> <strong>Book</strong>
