MAINTENANCE 6Wash the motorcycle with water, a mild detergentand a sponge. Wipe the vehicle with a soft cloth.Use an air jet to dry difficult-to-reach areas.CAUTION• Avoid using clothes or sponges thathave been in contact with strong orabrasive detergents, solvents or gasoline.• To avoid irreparable damage to thebodywork parts, never use alkaline orstrongly acid detergents, petrol, brakefluid or other solvents.• If you have doubts about the chemicalcomposition of the detergent, test itseffect by applying it on a little area of thefairing before using it on the whole bike.Periodically treat the paintwork with high qualitywax. After riding on roads treated with corrosivesubstances (salt), wash the vehicle as soon aspossible with cold water. Do not use hot water asit enhances the corrosive action.- 139 -WARNINGAvoid smearing brakes or tyres with oilor wax. If necessary, clean the brakediscs with a brake disc detergent or withacetone, and wash the tyres with warmwater and a neutral detergent.WARNINGThe presence of water on the brakes canlead to a decrease of the braking effectivenesswith subsequent risk of accidents.After completing the washing, runthe engine for a few minutes and start offat reduced speed. Carefully apply thebrakes a few times so as to dry the brakepads and discs.WARNINGThe drive chain must be correctly lubricatedafter washing the motorcycle, followingthe instructions provided at §6.10. of this manual.6
