<strong>Legend</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Burning</strong> <strong>Sands</strong> <strong>RPG</strong> Campaign Settingdeities <strong>of</strong> a lost age. Shilah, <strong>the</strong> sleeping Kaleel,<strong>the</strong>ir children in <strong>the</strong> night sky – all would perishso that <strong>the</strong> Jinn could revel in <strong>the</strong>ir self-deprivingpower. Second, <strong>the</strong> Seal <strong>of</strong>fered a way to contactShilah directly, to pierce through <strong>the</strong> wall <strong>of</strong> Jinnthat murmured deceitfully in her ear each day,and opened her clenched eyes to <strong>the</strong> terrible truth<strong>of</strong> her creations’ design.The humans only sought a new ally in <strong>the</strong>ir fightagainst <strong>the</strong> Jinn, a way to end <strong>the</strong> awfulcataclysm approaching. They never anticipatedthat <strong>the</strong>ir actions would urge it forward.Awakened from her lunacy, Shilah witnessed <strong>the</strong>Jinn through <strong>the</strong> veracity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Seal, and –calling upon all <strong>the</strong> power keeping her sane –lashed out across <strong>the</strong> beautiful terrain she hadbrought into being. In one climactic moment, <strong>the</strong>world dissolved around <strong>the</strong> Jinn, Ashalan, andhumans. Magic touched by her wrath wasconsumed to add to <strong>the</strong> destruction, ripped awayfrom those who would carelessly use it for <strong>the</strong>irown selfish desire. Mi<strong>no</strong>r beings – Jinnsubsisting upon <strong>the</strong> land and within <strong>the</strong> air, andAshalan both young and weak – were obliteratedin a flash <strong>of</strong> Shilah’s grace. Those who thrivedfrom magic and lived were forced out <strong>of</strong> Shilah’ssight: <strong>the</strong> Ashalan fled into <strong>the</strong> earth, and <strong>the</strong> lastthousand Jinn bound <strong>the</strong>mselves into servicewith <strong>the</strong> humans or fled beyond <strong>the</strong> boundaries<strong>of</strong> our world.Kaleel and his bro<strong>the</strong>rs, saved by <strong>the</strong> powerstolen from <strong>the</strong> slumbering Moon, were severelyweakened during <strong>the</strong> Day <strong>of</strong> Wrath. Theyattempted to escape but were hunted down bythose whom <strong>the</strong>y had tried to enslave, <strong>the</strong>ircitadel grounded and buried beneath <strong>the</strong> sands.With precious little strength left, <strong>the</strong>y fell into along sleep – like <strong>the</strong>ir fa<strong>the</strong>r had before <strong>the</strong>m –<strong>no</strong>t to be seen again for hundreds <strong>of</strong> years. Intime, <strong>the</strong> Young Races, who are eternallyoptimistic in <strong>the</strong>ir nature, assumed <strong>the</strong> Adversaryand his brethren to be destroyed. One bro<strong>the</strong>r,Israk, refused to accept that Kaleel was dead andventured into <strong>the</strong> Blighted Realms to find him.The First Jinn War was over.The Third Age: TheSurvivorsThe survivors <strong>of</strong> Lady Sun's wrath wandered <strong>the</strong>barren lands for many days. Groups wanderedoutwards seeking lands that would support <strong>the</strong>m,desperately looking for water and farmable land.Many died as <strong>the</strong>y wandered <strong>the</strong> land <strong>of</strong> sand andsun.One group wandered inland, confidant that <strong>the</strong>ywould find salvation, that all <strong>the</strong> fertile land had<strong>no</strong>t destroyed. They indeed found fertile land, on<strong>the</strong> banks <strong>of</strong> a massive deep river that flowedfrom east to west. On <strong>the</strong> banks <strong>of</strong> this river <strong>the</strong>tribe build <strong>the</strong>ir first city, calling it Senpet, inho<strong>no</strong>ur <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir leader who had brought <strong>the</strong>mhere.Yet a<strong>no</strong><strong>the</strong>r group wandered <strong>no</strong>rthwest till <strong>the</strong>ycame across a fertile river delta, a part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>same might river that <strong>the</strong> fledgling SenpetEmpire had found. Here <strong>the</strong>y built <strong>the</strong>ir villagesand set <strong>the</strong>ir farmlands. They tamed <strong>the</strong> camelsand horses <strong>the</strong>y found <strong>the</strong>re and thanked Fate fordelivering <strong>the</strong>m to this place <strong>of</strong> peace.A Time <strong>of</strong> Growth: <strong>the</strong>Golden AgeThe Tribes <strong>of</strong> Senpet faired well, <strong>the</strong>ir citiesgrowing in size and splendour. Huge pyramidsbegan to dot <strong>the</strong> landscape <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Senpet cities,marking <strong>the</strong> tombs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir dead priest-kings.The Senpet also traded with <strong>the</strong> tribes to <strong>the</strong>west. The Senpet possessed incredible artistswho created some <strong>the</strong> <strong>Burning</strong> <strong>Sands</strong> mostdazzling paintings, jewellery, and pottery. Theyare also accredited with creating <strong>the</strong> first form <strong>of</strong>writing within <strong>the</strong> cultures <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Burning</strong> <strong>Sands</strong>.Their hieroglyphic writing was adopted by <strong>the</strong>more learned <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r cultures in order torecord histories, legends, and importantdocuments. Many tribal wise men traveled to <strong>the</strong>cities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Senpet to learn <strong>the</strong> arts <strong>of</strong> writing.The tribes to <strong>the</strong> west were perhaps <strong>the</strong> mostprosperous <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cultures <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Burning</strong> <strong>Sands</strong>.Ruled by person k<strong>no</strong>w as <strong>the</strong> Sultan, <strong>the</strong>Sultanate cities grew incredible fast. The entiredelta was taken under <strong>the</strong>ir control. Dozens <strong>of</strong>villages had grown up over <strong>the</strong> delta, with keepsprotecting <strong>the</strong>m. The capital itself grew in leapsand bounds. Nick-named <strong>the</strong> City <strong>of</strong> OneThousand Stories, Medinat al-Salaam became<strong>the</strong> focal point <strong>of</strong> all trade for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Burning</strong> <strong>Sands</strong>.Ships from <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Senpet regularlydocked on its’ river port. Trade caravansroutinely entered and left <strong>the</strong> massive gates <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> merchant quarters, bringing horses, furs andcopper, and taking back worked goods. The ruler<strong>of</strong> Medinat al-Salaam, <strong>the</strong> Sultan, declared hiscity <strong>the</strong> brightest gem in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Burning</strong> <strong>Sands</strong> and4<strong>Legend</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Five Rings Fan Book
