Implementation of the guidelineDevelopment of local guidelinesThis guideline can serve as the basis for the development and implementation of localguidelines.For this guideline to be useful in clinical practice, clinicians, healthcare managers andlocal working groups should adapt the national guideline to local conditions.Locally developed guidelines should reflect local epidemiological conditions and theantibiotic policy strategies of individual healthcare structures. Individual operatingunits should use the examples of local implementation attached to this guideline(Annex 1 p..) to develop their own detailed operating protocol, which should indicatethe first choice of antibiotic, dosage, administration procedures and duration ofprophylaxis for each type of operation or group of operations. The protocol should beagreed with the experts involved in administering the antibiotics and should beapproved and signed by the manager of the operating unit.Local therapeutic and hospital infection committees should be involved in validatingand developing a strategy for the implementation of the guideline.Responsibility for the application and implementation of the guideline in eachoperating unit must be clearly assigned.Compliance with measures for prevention suggested by the Centers for DiseaseControl and Prevention (CDC)The administration of antibiotic prophylaxis cannot in any way replace the correctadherence to preventive measures, which are fundamental in limiting thedevelopment of SSI.It is important to remember that most findings of clinical studies of prophylaxis arethe result of both the application of preventive measures and the actualpharmacological prophylaxis.
