Chapter 1CHAPTER 1APPLICATION AND GENERAL1 Application2 General1.1 General1.1.1 These Rules apply to the floating docks specified inChapter 2.Floating docks other than those described herein will beconsidered on a case-by-case basis.As far as concerns matters not specifically dealt with inthese Rules, reference should be made to the requirementscontained in the "Rules for the Classification of Ships", as faras reasonably applicable.1.1.2 In general, the requirements regarding fire protection,detection and extinction (hereinafter referred to as "fireprotection") are not mandatory for the purpose of classification,except where RINA carries out surveys relevant to fireprotection statutory requirements on behalf of the flagAdministration. In such cases, fire protection statutoryrequirements are considered a matter of class and thereforecompliance with these requirements is also verified byRINA for classification purposes at class surveys.Therefore, the requirements of Chapter 6, relevant to fireprotection, do not apply for the purpose of classification.2.1 Statutory regulations2.1.1 The classification of a floating dock does not absolvethe Interested Party from compliance with any requirementsissued by Administrations and any other applicable internationaland national regulations for the safety of life at seaand protection of the marine environment.2.2 Abbreviations2.2.1 RulesIn these Rules, the wording "Rules" is intended to mean theeffective RINA "Rules for the Classification of Ships"; i.e.,when in the text, reference is made to Part A of the Rules,reference is to be made to Part A of the Rules for the Classificationof Ships.
