<strong>Tulane</strong> University<strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>Program</strong> <strong>Report</strong>September <strong>2013</strong>Based on the faculty graduate admissions committee review, an applicant is either accepted (orprovisionally accepted until the completion <strong>of</strong> the undergraduate degree) or denied acceptance to thedegree track to which the student applied. Due to strong applicant pools it is not uncommon for a “wait list”to be created each year.Academic and Personal AdvisingUndergraduate students in the 5-year MArch program are assigned a Newcomb-<strong>Tulane</strong> College academicadvisor who supports them throughout their time at <strong>Tulane</strong>. Graduate MArch I and II students receiveacademic advising by the Graduate <strong>Architecture</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Director.Students meet with their Advisor at least once a semester for degree progress audits, short and long-termacademic program planning, and information on course prerequisites, sequence <strong>of</strong> courses, and otherrequirements defined in this catalogue. A particularly important consideration is the positioning and content<strong>of</strong> a student's elective coursework, in order to insure a well-rounded program <strong>of</strong> liberal arts study. Advisorsalso counsel students on career planning, pr<strong>of</strong>essional specialties and job placement.Students also consult periodically with the school's Associate Dean <strong>of</strong> Students on all matters concerningtheir academic performance and degree progress. Any student may contact the Dean's <strong>of</strong>fice forinformation on these matters or for special arrangements regarding their program <strong>of</strong> study.The <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Architecture</strong> is also instituting a program <strong>of</strong> assigned faculty mentors for all undergraduatestudents in our 5-year MArch program at a ratio <strong>of</strong> approximately 12 students per faculty member. Thesefaculty mentors will compliment established, formal academic advising, by providing thoughtful, consistent,and deliberate faculty guidance and mentorship. Students may at times need to discuss the fit between theirpersonal and academic life; students are encouraged to bring these concerns to their Advisor, the AssociateDean <strong>of</strong> Students, their faculty mentor, or the Academic Advising Office, which has a dedicated advisor forall architecture students.Advising services include: course selection, academic planning, monitoring <strong>of</strong> degree requirements andacademic progress, pre-pr<strong>of</strong>essional planning and preparation, monitoring and expediting pr<strong>of</strong>essionalschool application process, major, minor, interdisciplinary and specialized study options, changing major orschool, transfer credit review and approval assistance, <strong>of</strong>f-campus and non-traditional course credit review,withdrawal and leave <strong>of</strong> absence.Complete information on Undergraduate Advising may be found at:http://tulane.edu/advising/about/about_advising.cfmStudent Support ServicesAdditional personal advising is available through the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> Student Resources and Support Services.Student Resources & Support Services uses an individualized approach to help students connect to theresources that they may need on campus and in the New Orleans community. The <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong>fers problemresolution assistance, case management services, victim support services and referral services. Students are encouraged to make appointments for personalizedassistance with the Director <strong>of</strong> Career Development.32
